I am a full-time auditor with three years of professional auditing and accounting experience at one of the world's biggest auditing firm. My passion focuses on accounting, auditing, and other subjects that are related to numbers and involves critical thinking.
I had two years of tutoring experience in accounting, college algebra, and statistics. One of the motivations for me to be a tutor is to see my tutees to improve their academic performance and more importantly develop more effective study methodology/habits. To see my tutees grow and be better about the subjects makes me feel very happy. I am very approachable and patient when students have questions or confusion. I believe a good tutor should explain things step by step in a easy-to-understand approach.
Based on my tutoring experience and observation, I found students learn things more efficiently when they are actively involved in the tutoring processes, so I am a big proponent of leading students to think instead of just feeding them with information. Nancy was really good with the stuff she taught me. She knows her work and is very patient. It was easy to strike a friendship with her, which helped in understanding the lesson as well as asking questions without hesitation, even multiple times.
My session with Nancy went well. I believe she knows accounting, however, I do not think she has been exposed to practical application of accounting in a business setting. I did pick up a couple of things from her, but I believe it would have been more helpful to have had a tutor that had practical experience, not just "schooling." Nancy was very courteous and tried hard to help me figure out the reasoning behind what I have to do as part of my month end responsibilities. Overall she would be a wonderful tutor for secondary level accounting students.
Nancy is an excellent teacher and a nice person. Hey ability to make complex subjects understandable is exceptional. We recommend her highly.
Nancy made accounting very easy. She has a great amount of knowledge in the subject. She was so helpful that after our first session she sent me typed up notes of our session.
Nancy made it clear that managerial accounting and financial accounting are very different. I knew that someone of her qualifications could handle something that I was overlooking. After about 10 minutes of reading the course textbook, she was clear on the understanding of absorption costing vs variable costing. She explained to me the difference and we worked through a worksheet arriving at the proper solution. I was impressed how she went in cold and in 10 minutes picked up on exactly what I was missing. She is patient and walked me through the problem showing me exactly my mistakes. I left with a clear understanding of the differences between absorption and variable costing. Well done Nancy!
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
