I am a teacher, but first and foremost, I am a lifelong learner, thanks to outstanding teachers who have awakened my curiosity and interest with respect to the most disparate subjects. I focus on the student: I listen, assess and constantly check for understanding until I am sure they attain independent practice. I teach by establishing an on-going dialogue with my student. I have taught all levels, from Kindergarten to University. I started as a Kindergarten teacher's aid, taught architectural design studios at the university (Texas Tech and UCA) and elementary school at HISD and Alief ISD. I have also tutored high school students in Houston and Sugar Land in various subjects: math, physics, literature, Spanish, studying skills and SAT preparation. Currently, I am the translator for the Alief Independent School District. As a certified bilingual teacher, I am required to take 30 hours a year of professional development, which I cover by taking teaching workshops. I started the university by doing 3 years of Engineering and then switched to Architecture, graduating with a B Arch. I then did an interdisciplinary Master of Arts in Arid and Semi-arid Land Studies at Texas Tech. At the time, my GRE score was the highest they had ever seen. To relax, I solve logic puzzles, but also like classical music and film.

10th grade Geometry for my Daughter who has never has Geometry before. She is staying interested and picking it up quickly. Great job!
Olivia has been working with my 16 year old daughter on a regular basis in math for a couple of years now. Currently Algebra II. Olivia has helped her math skills and confidence immensely. She also has a patience with her that is not always easy with a teenage girl.
Olivia is really a wonderful person with passion for teaching and enabling students. I am grateful to have the opportunity of having her time for my daughter. Thanks
Very skilled and explaining the subject matter; patient and organized. I would highly recommend Olivia my daughter has worked with her for SAT prep and my son with middle school math and both are improved greatly and are more confident as a result!
Olivia has been tutoring my daughter (Algebra I and II and Geometry) for the last 7 months now and I have been able to see a marked improvement in my daughter's performance. She has been very responsive and accommodating every time we had to change the schedules. My daughter is particularly pleased with the endless patience that Olivia has.
It is a testimony to Olivia's years of experience when she always seem to have solutions to all the problems and that is one aspect which appears to give a lot of confidence to my daughter at school.
I previously had taken the ACT and got a 19. The only studying I did was JUST 9 LESSONS with Ms. Olivia. The next time I took it, I got a 34. She gives a lot of homework, but it is extremely helpful. If you have any questions, feel free to ask her and she will explain, but I doubt you will even need her to. She gives an answer sheet that she has personally worked out every step, making it very easy to understand. I cannot recommend her enough.
Olivia worked with my 1st grade son for about 7 months ( almost all of 1st grade). She came twice a week for an hour each. My son did NOT like reading and was behind in his class. Over the months he improved so much and he enjoyed her coming and him reading to her! She would play games to help with his skills as well. Not just boring ol' reading session. I highly recommend!
Great tutor! She really makes the lessons custom to what you are struggling in and lets you know what you need to know. She is really helping me prepare for the SAT and ACT.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
