I have a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology and a Master's Degree in Elementary Education. I am also certified in New York State in Early Childhood Education and Childhood Education. I have 20+ years experience as a teacher, substitute teacher, assistant teacher and tutor in the states of New York, Florida, New Hampshire, and Connecticut.
My most recent experience was teaching several different grades in all subjects in the same New York City School in the Bronx for almost 10 years. I look forward to helping students gain confidence and show progress by teaching them the skills they need to thrive. I make learning fun by introducing the topic in a way that motivates the student to want to learn and my lesson plans are geared towards targeting the skills each individual child needs. I model and explicitly teach the skill in a way that will help the student learn the skill. I make sure there is plenty of time for independent work to practice the skill in a way that works best for the individual. Then I would go over the work again with the student to assess the student's understanding of the skill.
As a student, math was always my favorite subject. I have taken several classes and workshops that show specific ways to teach math that will benefit in my tutoring. At my school in the Bronx, I taught with a co-teacher for 2 years and I taught the math lesson and my co-teacher assisted. When common core was introduced in 2011, I worked with the other first grade teachers to create the entire math curriculum for the year. My love of math always carries over into my teaching and motivates the student.
