My expectations for students are high, yet reasonable. My unique ability to relate to children allows me to develop a relationship of mutual respect.
Others in the field of Education, as well as business professionals, have publicly recognized my accomplishments as a outstanding educator. I was awarded Teacher of the Year in 1995, for the Texas Christian Schools' Association, and the 2008 ING Unsung Heroes Award for my innovative ideas for unique school programs.
I have a natural love for reading, as well as the English language. I have received much formal training in the area of reading. Not only did I specialize in Reading in undergraduate school, but I also completed a 2-week Language Enrichment course at the Neuhaus Education Center in Houston, established in 1980, for students struggling in reading. I taught 4th grade grammar for 11 years, and my students averaged 11th grade level on their nationally-normed test in Language. I taught an advanced 5th grade reading course for 8 years and my students always performed above grade-level, some scoring in the Post High School range.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
