About Regina

I believe there are several ways to motivate a student to achieve a higher level of learning. The first step is to develop a relationship of authenticity and trust. Once trust is established, students are comfortable acknowledging and infusing their voices and experiences into the classroom. Once this happens, learning becomes applicable, meaningful, and relevant in far-reaching ways. Through this experience, students become empowered to think independently and to claim ownership of their learning.

The second step to enhancing a student’s higher level of thinking is through summative and formative assessments. These tools drive differentiated instruction. Using psychometrically valid assessments can also help bring to light a student’s level of information and knowledge and his/her cognitive development. This can glean insights into the conceptual skills and learning a student is ready to receive. I believe empirical data along with understanding the stage of development of a student can offer an accurate and meaningful picture of what and how a student is prepared to know and why.

I hold a BA and MA in political science. I have taught history, government and politics for many years, as well as written AP exams in several history subjects. I am passionate about teaching these subjects and enjoy making them come alive with humor and story telling.

I am open and flexible, while providing a structured framework for students to excel. Teaching is a partnership between a teacher and a student. Please feel free to contact me to set up a personalized plan of success.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I hold a BA and MA in political science. I have 4 years' experience as a political science professor.
