About Brian

This Research Scientist with a PhD in Physics is looking to challenge and enlighten serious students at all levels while earning a little extra cash. :-) If you feel you have been underperforming in physics or math because your current teacher/prof can't explain the material in a way that makes sense to you, give me a try. I have been mentoring and tutoring students since high school, have experience teaching International Baccalaureate physics to high school seniors, teaching for Princeton Review, running courses for undergraduates and mentoring students at all levels, from a multitude of cultural backgrounds. I believe in making the complex understandable by relating to common sense and everyday experiences. I will listen to your needs, whatever they are, and will help you develop a successful strategy for reaching your goals. Able to assist with all High School Science and Math courses, Undergraduate Physics courses, and potentially a Few Other Things. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Calculus

In earning my PhD in Physics, I took Calc 1 through Calc 3, as well as making practical (almost everyday) use of the material in my physics courses and research, including a Master's thesis and PhD Dissertation. I passed all university undergraduate and graduate math courses with minimum of an "A" grade. I have recently coached students taking these courses at the college or university level, receiving great reviews. If you are struggling with these tough courses, I can help you.

Differential Equations

In earning my PhD in Physics, I took differential equations in third year, as well as making practical use of the material in my physics courses, including a Master's thesis and Dissertation. I passed all university undergraduate and graduate math courses with minimum of an "A" grade. I still have my notes and still understand the principles behind solving differential equations.

Linear Algebra

In earning my PhD in Physics, I took courses in linear algebra in first and second year. Vector and matrix manipulation are a fundamental basis for physics courses that I used throughout my education and applied to my research over the past 10 years. I passed all university undergraduate and graduate math courses with minimum of an "A" grade. If someone needs help with linear algebra, I'm confident I can show them how it's done.

Physics

I earned my PhD in Physics almost 10 years ago. Since then, I have worked as a Research Scientist studying theoretical and experimental physical acoustics. In my undergraduate and graduate schooling, I took advanced courses in Mechanics, Electricity and Magnetism, Optics, Thermodynamics and Statistical Mechanics, Quantum Mechanics. I also took the associated Mathematics courses. Much of this material was used here and there in my research. I have extensive tutoring experience in Physics I and Physics II, also AP Physics (AB and C) and High School Physics. I have also taught Physics for MCAT. My approach is rigorous and intuitive, and I try to improve conceptual understanding while presenting practical methods to recognize and solve problems.

Wow! Amazing tutor! Highly recommended for Science and Math!

Brian is FANTASTIC! My daughter went to Brian for help in preparing for her Physics final. Unfortunately, she was way behind in Physics and needed significant help. After her first session with Brian, her comment when we left was "I learned more in two hours with Brian than I did all semester at school.". Brian was able to easily explain the theories to her. He worked with the materials tha
