Lone Star College (Biotechnology)
Hello! My name is Jennifer, and I love helping students learn chemistry and biology. I have experience in tutoring both high school and college material in chemistry and biology, including honors, pre-AP and AP levels in each subject.
I have a very deep passion for biology amd chemistry, which is why I strive to help my students understand science, not just "know" science. With chemistry, instead of simply showing students how to "do problems," I coach my students through each step of the problem-solving process with chemical calculations. I do not skip steps with my students, and try to give as effective, thorough and insightful a lesson as possible. As with tutoring biology to students, I try to re-explain concepts to students in ways that are easier for them to understand. I often supplement biology lessons with either fun activities or videos to help students visualize biological processes. I also help students with memorization techniques if they are in need of them for their science classes.
Not only do I try to impart my knowledge of chemistry and biology to my students, I deliver lessons in a patient and friendly manner, and even try to bring a sense of humor in order to make my students feel more at ease and relaxed. I found that this actually helps to make lessons more effective and productive for everyone involved, students, tutor, parents alike.
My educational background consists of a heavy dose of science. I am currently a biotechnology major at Lone Star College- Montgomery. Because of this educational background, I have a very deep understanding of chemical processes and life sciences. I hope to help you or your child learn science and come to love it as much as I do! Jennifer my son and I are very happy with your classes, he told me about your big patience and the good tips for him, is everything continuing like that you are going to be his teacher for a long term.
Jennifer is tutoring my child in Algebra 2. She is always on-time, comes prepared and is a high-quality tutor. I highly recommend her.
Jennifer is very thorough and patient in her explanations. She is extremely helpful and shares her understanding and logic regarding the concepts of Chemistry that I am covering. She has helped me to better understand the periodic table and has familiarized and aided me in the many different calculations I must use. Jennifer has also been extremely helpful in helping me to understand and complete the lab assignments. All in all she is excellent and I am lucky to have her as my tutor.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a biotechnology major at Lone Star College- Montgomery. I have a deep passion for biology, especially evolution, genetics, and cell science. I am always eager to share my knowledge and hope to instill an interest in life sciences in other students.
Chemistry is a fun science that often requires specific calculations- this is where I can help. With my strong algebra and problem-solving skills, I am able to help students with both chemical calculations and lab reports. I can also help students understand some of the more abstract laws and theories of chemistry.
This is a subject where I find it is really important to make sure students have a firm foundation in algebra and trigonometry, in order to get them ready for the challenges they will meet in Calculus. I work with students to make sure they are able to successfully handle the very heavy algebra that they encounter in this class. I often find it is necessary to give students supplemental algebra and trigonometry problems along with their coursework, so they do not fall behind when they begin Calculus.
