Thank you for visiting my profile! I am an intelligent, educated, and patient person. My style of teaching is very customized. I determine the students level of understanding and walk through the material accordingly, being very careful as to make sure the student is following and not move too quickly or rush through any concept. On the other hand, if a student seems to be catching on quickly and I can tell they are comfortable, I will also move at a faster pace so that I don't become redundant and the student doesn't get bored.
Anyone who knows me can vouch for me and say that if I was born to do something - it is to teach and to help others. Math is my passion. I love it, and I'm also great at explaining it. Any course up to Pre-calculus I'm very comfortable with (this includes all Algebras and finite math). In college I took up to Calculus 2, even though I didn't need to go that far into math being a business major. I did it for fun, and I made A's in Pre-calculus, Calculus I, and Calculus II. Even when I was taking those courses, my friends would always come to me for help when they didn't understand something in class or in the textbook, and I would very successfully help them. Calculus is a subject that builds on itself with each course, which is why the Pre-calculus foundation is very strong for me, though I remember very little of Calculus I and II.
I taught at a small, religious, private school recently. Last year I taught Algebra I to a group of twenty 8th graders, and the year before that, I taught Algebra II to a group of thirteen 11th grade students, and always received very positive reviews from the principal. The second semester that year, I was also assigned to teach a group of eighteen 9th graders the same subject as their previous teacher was under-performing. I made full use of the textbook, using examples from it and then doing new examples in class, and even though we had a timeline of what material to teach in how long, I took my time when I could tell that they weren't grasping it. I encouraged questions and even if one student admitted to being confused, I took the time to re-explain it. By nature I'm very social and often funny, and this trait is ever-present as I teach, so my students really enjoyed my company and saw me as a friend. (It helps that I look so young. Hehe.)
In other experience, I've also tutored my cousin in Pre-calculus several years back, and this semester she is taking it again and I will be tutoring her throughout. Even though she's family, I am very professional and dedicated to helping her, just as I will be with all of my students. I've attached some evidence of my previous work with her in my photos.
Although teaching in a classroom was a great experience and taught me a lot, I prefer working with individuals, which explains why I'm here on WyzAnt. Thank you for reading my description! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
