Bio

I graduated Summa Cum Laude (highest honors) from the University of Houston with a B.S. in Psychology and minor in English. I am about to enter graduate school.

Combining my aptitude in psychology and English, I am able to understand a plethora of topics and convey them in a number of ways. This makes tutoring a fun and meaningful venture for me! I enjoy learning about each student and their needs and walking them toward success. I tailor my tutoring to you or your child's learning method:...

Combining my aptitude in psychology and English, I am able to understand a plethora of topics and convey them in a number of ways. This makes tutoring a fun and meaningful venture for me! I enjoy learning about each student and their needs and walking them toward success. I tailor my tutoring to you or your child's learning method: visual, verbal, written, mixture, all of the above. I have worked with students with Aspergers and have the ability to sense emotional needs (such as comprehension, apprehension, confusion, etc) which doesn't sound that special, but considering how easy it is to think you understand something--I wont allow students to walk away only partially prepared!

I am a mother of 2, have been a childcare provider for over 10 years, am a birth doula...needless to say I understand families and the value of your time, intelligence, and futures.

Courses: All psychology courses, English literature, K-12 education across subjects, but feel free to approach me with any topic. I will not accept a job I am not 100% confident in. Thank you for your time and best of luck on your academic journey!

My bachelor's degree in psychology includes a minor in English. Related courses included material on grammar, linguistics, fiction writing, analytical/comparative essays, research papers (15+ pages), and professional writing including items like CVs, meeting minutes, e-mails, and proposals. Writing is also a hobby of mine. I am well-studied in APA and MLA format. As a tutor, I frequently proofread and edit the aforementioned documents for peers and students. Working at the Anxiety & Health Research Lab at the University of Houston I assist with professionally written research articles. I typically use google docs to participate in the writing process; there I am able to comment, edit, and proof ongoing writing assignments.

Anatomy,

Anatomy

I love human anatomy and my primary focus in college has been neuroanatomy and psychological function. I am pursuing my Ph.D. in Clinical Neuropsychology. I have taken and tutored on: general human anatomy (skeleton, integumentary system, connective tissue, organs, etc.), anatomical subsystems and their functions (i.e. how a nephron in the kidney works, how the GI secreted hormone ghrelin works within the hypothalamus to stop hunger), and medical terminology. I can explain the nervous system from how a neuron fires to how the limbic system works and why. Understanding the brain and body can feel daunting, but when broken down into smaller, manageable parts, the terms and connections fit together like a beautiful puzzle you can easily recall. Similar to learning how the chain/pedal/wheel work together on a bike--once you understand it everything just makes sense--same goes for anatomy.
Psychology,

Psychology

I earned a B.S. in Psychology from the University of Houston (GPA: 3.97, Psych Major GPA: 3.79). During college I volunteered as a tutor for 11 unique psychology courses with Psi Chi, the International Honor Society in Psychology. Each course and student required a unique approach, which I learned how to measure and incorporate during my classes, and content that was accessible for varied student schedules including in-person, online, and short notice. Classes covered: Intro to Psych, Methods, Statistics, Abnormal, Industrial-Organizational, Social, Physiological, Cognitive, Clinical, Personality, & Cultural psychology. I also received an A in Latino Psychology. I currently work as a research assistant with the Anxiety & Health Research Laboratory at the University of Houston where I am advancing my psychology education through hands-on administration of test measurements in ongoing psychological research.
