Having received lifetime French and English certifications in Pennsylvania, I have subsequently taught in Ohio, Indiana, and Texas. Tutoring is especially satisfying, to see the students improve their grades and their proficiency. Teaching languages, French, English, ESL and beginning Spanish, using textbooks, worksheets, games, Internet, whatever it takes, is my specialty.

I decided to get tutoring because I needed to get more serious about my French. Joyce has been great!! She is very knowledgeable, and brings lots of helpful tools to help you understand concepts and grammar. Also, I am not very confident (at all) when speaking the language, and she is very patient helping me through it. With her stretching me, I am already seeing an improvement in my understanding!
Thank you Joyce for all your efforts. You have helped me improve my conversation skills in a very short period of time.
I'm honored to work with you and other such enthusiastic students.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I have been teaching ESL for several years. I taught students enrolled at Indiana University in Indianapolis prior to moving to Houston. Here, I volunteer with Montgomery County Literacy and have taught ESL to many international residents in group settings or on an individual basis. I enjoy it.
I have lifetime French and English certifications in Pennsylvania. Study skills involve organization of place and materials, knowing how to take notes, when to study, and time management. Creating incentives and rewarding oneself are vital to the studying and test-taking process. Test taking skills are also important.
These skills I usually discuss with the students as I help them with their subject matter. It is an intrinsic part of the learning process.
