Writing the college essay is a challenge. Open-ended prompts and the pressure to write the “great American college essay” only add to Writer’s Block, or as some parents describe it, procrastination. I can help your student create and develop an authentic essay, with your student’s unique voice and qualifications. And in the process, your student will learn how to write simply and clearly, and hopefully better. More importantly, the applications are done!
I am a former marketing and advertising professor, publicity writer and hold an MBA in marketing. I spent 10 years in the advertising industry in Boston, almost 10 years overseas in marketing positions for non-profits or as a marketing professor, and have been based in Texas for the past 20 years as a licensed High School Business teacher, marketing consultant and part-time college instructor. Typical marketing classes at the college and MBA level require a lot of writing, analysis and creative solutions to case studies, and I am well used to editing and assisting budding writers.
My approach is to brainstorm with your student and uncover the important and unique elements for the essay. We do this in a face-to-face meeting, and flesh in the supporting details. Your student writes an outline with me. The next step is the first draft, sent by email, edited by me with comments and returned by email. I keep parents informed of the status, and I keep students on schedule. If there is a second meeting, we work on this draft together or we move on to other essays and application requirements.
I am not interested in ghost writing your student’s essay, dictating the words and sentences or writing untruths. Your student does the writing. Writing the college essay is a challenge. Open-ended prompts and the pressure to write the “great American college essay” only add to Writer’s Block, or as some… Read more

Mrs. M & M is a very attentive, warm, and patient tutor. My daughter actually looks forward to her visits now! When we receive papers back from school that contain errors, Mrs. M & M goes over the errors with my daughter. This is so helpful, it certainly helps reinforce concepts and imprint them onto my daughter's memory. Mrs. M & M identifies problems that my daughter has and creates an action plan for us to address them. She works with all of us to determine the best way to address any weaknesses that my daughter has in learning the material or concepts. She encourages my daughter to work through "the hard parts" and gives her praise for work well done. I cannot say enough about how wonderful I think Mrs. M & M is.
She is very knowledgeable about the subject she's tutoring. She offers suggestions and gives a helpful assessment with each lesson.
Mrs. M&M (nickname for her students) is the ultimate tutor. I had been wanting a private tutor for my daughter but was scared that there wouldn't be chemistry and a natural flow so that my 7 year old daughter could really learn and be excited about learning. We have been with Mrs. M&M for exactly 1 month now and she has become a household name in our house and my daughter is constantly reminding me of things that she has learned from her. She is exactly what I wanted in a tutor for my daughter and I am SO happy that she is helping my daughter grow in a way that is exciting and engaging for her. My daughter is reading more, learning easy tips to harder math problems, and most important, my daughter who was lacking in academic confidence, is becoming more and more confident which is priceless in my opinion. We LOVE Mrs. M&M and wouldn't trade her for anything and we are so grateful and blessed to have her in our family now.
We began with Mrs. M&M in late September 2012. I just received my daughters first report card since the one when we began our tutor process and I am SO excited to report that every one of her grades are up; EVERY ONE of them.

AMAZING to say the least. With progress of this magnitude I am hoping we will have Mrs. M&M until my daughter is ready for college. I am a very happy mom.
Lydia is wonderful. My daughter was having such a difficult time with her multiplication. She was nervous and very unenthusiastic about having a tutor. The first day Lydia came to my home, she spent ample time with my daughter getting to know her. She was sweet and very sincere. She was able to quickly identify my daughters learning style and work with her accordingly. She gave her confidence which is equally important. She patiently takes the time she needs for each session until she is satisfied that there was progress made that day. Only three times we met with Mrs. M & M and my daughter no longer complains about her homework and needs little assistance. I cannot thank her enough!
Mrs. Lydia, a.k.a. Mrs. M&M, was a wonderful tutor. She went above and beyond for my son who was quite challenging with his ADHD. He really liked her and enjoyed his sessions with her. I highly recommend her as a tutor for your child.
Lydia or "Mrs. M & M" as the kids call her was great from the start. She educated us on grade levels and overall educational information that was useful and timely. She then made learning fun for our daughter. Even when our girl was a little tired; Lydia never got frustrated and always found a way to get the learning through. She used different kinds of learning techniques and identified the best way to assist our daughter to grasp and retain the information. We owe her thanks for the progress she assisted our daughter in making.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I bring a wealth of information and experience to career development and its process. Through writing, I can assist an adult in writing and editing a resume that meets the needs for electronic posting for today's jobs. I have extensive experience in Marketing and through a series of questions and discussions, I can direct a young adult or adult towards a range of possible jobs based upon his/her skills. Having lived overseas, I can assist in directing an adult's decision to re-locate to a European or Asian market job.
Through my writing career, I have taught students how to fill out college applications and do essay writing. In Texas, many universities and colleges accept the Common Application, and so I help a student accumulate the necessary files (grades, scores, names of college counselors at high school, essays, standard personal information, and how to locate for emailing files such as transcripts and course descriptions) and learn to file them electronically. We also work hard to develop, create and then write essays that demonstrate the student's interest in that college or university without over-selling.
