I approach tutoring with the understanding of the reality that we all face: difficult things often make us nervous, stressed, angry, and dismayed. I enjoy turning all these negative emotions into positive ones by making it easier for students to learn math. I approach tutoring with the understanding of the reality that we all face: difficult things often make us nervous, stressed, angry, and dismayed. I enjoy turning all these negative emotions into positive ones by making it easier for students to learn math. I am trained in the Mathnasium Method, a teaching philosophy that emphasizes building upon preexisting knowledge. I utilized this method during my 2 years at Mathnasium, where I taught students aged 5 to 17 concepts ranging from basic arithmetic to advanced trigonometry, and everything in between. Over the course of my tenure, I was able to improve 90 percent of students' grades and 93 percent of students' attitudes towards math.

When meeting I new student, I usually follow this process:

First, I determine their level of knowledge of the topic. This typically includes asking them to solve some problems independently.
Then, I compare that to the level necessary to complete their assignments/homework. If their knowledge level is below the level needed, then we work to fill in the learning gaps before beginning the assignment. If their knowledge level is at or above the level needed, then I let them work independently while asking questions to challenge them.
At the end of the day, I am focused on the long-term success of students. Achieving the bare minimum to finish the day's homework or to do well on one test will not serve students as they progress through increasingly difficult coursework. That's why I try to fill in learning gaps beforehand to ensure present and future success. :)

College Counseling

I provided college admissions services (choosing schools/field of study, consulting on essay composition and editing) to a student who received admission to Cornell University, Colby College, and Fordham University. I am currently working with a freshman in high school, and I am guiding her through career exploration and turning her passions into community impact. I received admission to USC, UCSD, UCI, UT Austin, and SMU, and I have 4+ years of experience tutoring students, so I can combine my knowledge from these two areas to provide college counseling services at a much lower rate than professionals.
