PROMOTIONAL RATES through August 2019. I am a certified professional tutor who has been teaching and acquiring educational experience since 1992; I am looking forward to helping you and your children. Students tell me that my teaching has been essential to their superior achievements. Many of those I help with college applications and test preparation are accepted by their first-choice universities. I give my very best to each student because his/her success represents my success as a dedicated teacher, too.
I offer customized immersion courses in the listed subjects based on short-term curricula I design; and I also provide personalized tutoring (help with school needs). The locations are selected by students: corporate offices, libraries, students' homes, or my private school-office, 7am-9pm. My students have increased their grades from the 20%-50s% to the 90%-100%, often with only 4 hours of subject immersion. I am very experienced in teaching languages and humanities. English, French, and Italian are languages I grew up with. I studied these languages in college (BA, MA degrees), and used them in my career in Europe and the United States; my certifications in teaching business and history subjects are derived from my MA degree in International Affairs and Business. In the United States, I've been tutoring since 1999; I was a teacher and examiner of diplomats in Washington D.C. where I specialized in immersion training (a method that ensures fast effective learning). In the U.S. and Europe, I've also worked as a simultaneous interpreter and book translator. In my career, I have successfully provided customized instruction and test preparation to corporate students, high school students, and elementary school/preschool kids; I offer customized family/group courses, too.
My certifications are these: a Master of Arts degree in EU Studies, International Affairs, and Business from George Washington University (2004, Washington, D.C.); coursework at Georgetown University (Washington, D.C.); online coursework at Sorbonne University (2017, Paris, France); a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Philology from the University of Bucharest, Romania; and extensive language and culture studies in Naples (Italy), Nice (France), Quebec (Canada), etc. I have worked in the U.S. and Europe for The University of Texas/ALTA, Open University Business School (UK), ELITE Test Prep school, Inlingua (ILR/government test prep); Global LT, UNICEF, U.S. courts; DIPLOMAT, The School of European Languages and Art, Varsity Tutors, Tutors com, Language School Teachers, and Certified Language Interpreters. I have taught corporate students at Mercedes Benz, Toyota, Verona Marble, Sabre, Ernst & Young, Open University Business School, etc. Additionally, I studied Art (drawing/painting) in Italy and at the National Academy of Fine Art, New York City (2008). I offer face-to-face and online instruction.
My BA major is in English with a minor in Philology (linguistics). In many American contexts my English vocabulary was proven superior on account of my skills in Latin languages -- my comparative advantage is due to my expertise in 3 Latin languages in the context of the Latin etymology of most English words required on the SAT/ACT/GRE Vocabulary lists . I offer competitive lessons or short-term programs in Reading Comprehension, Writing, Creative Writing, and Public Speaking. My English diploma GPA is 4/4. I have offered ESL/ESOL and TOEFL courses that helped many students overcome their cultural barriers. In STAAR and SAT/ACT test preparation, the immersion curricula I offer will provide in-depth training. (Note that some NEW SAT texts have included French and Italian literary references; I can help a student respond to that demand, too, via easy intro courses in these 2 languages).
FRENCH and ITALIAN
My French and Italian accents are native-like because I grew up in a French-speaking family, lived in Italy, worked for French and Italian companies, and have been travelling very often in these countries. I was a tutor and teacher of French, Italian, and English, and translated novels in Europe before becoming a U.S. citizen in 1997. Immersion language training ensures the fastest learning process: it includes French/Italian TV sources, movies, literature, songs, media, books, etc. My courses can help travelers acquire functional language skills extremely fast; however, I also offer very competitive AP French/Italian instruction.
HUMANITIES: my master's degree in European Studies and International Business and my English/Philology BA provide sufficient background for tutoring students in humanities subjects such as History, Geography, Art, Philosophy, and Social Studies.
DRAWING and PAINTING: I studied at the National Academy of Art in New York City (professor/painter S. Adoquei) as well as in Nice and Naples. I can teach students to improve their techniques in several styles -- realist, impressionist, expressionist, abstract, folk -- using oil or acrylic. I also offer tutoring in Art History.
Please, view my list of certified subjects and schedule a lesson at your convenience. I usually offer super-effective short programs (4-hour of subject-immersion training plus a preliminary 15-min. FREE consultation).
Our daughter had only two lessons with Gabriela and she already has a better understanding of many of the fundamentals she has missed in high school. She has also gained much needed confidence! Thank you!Greg, 2 lessons with Gabriela
Gabriela is very patient with my 7 year old. She also praises her work which helps with my daughter self esteem. My daughter has dyslexia and needs a lot of patience when teaching and Gabriela has been that.Ashley, 2 lessons with Gabriela

Knowledgeable and patient tutor
The lesson included reading, writing, phonics, and vocabulary. My daughter had fun and was learning at the same time. She is very excited for her next lesson. We are very blessed to have found Gabriela. She is very kind and really loves what she does.Sarah, 2 lessons with Gabriela
Extremely knowledgeable and helpful tutor!
After only a few lessons, I am able to grasp more of the French language than I have been able to by using a program like Rosetta Stone or by studying on my own. Each lesson is personalized and she takes the time to slow down and explain difficult concepts when needed. One of the wonderful things about Gabriela is that she understands what is like to learn French herself, which makes her very relatable as an instructor. She has so much experience in a variety of settings and different types of students, and I would highly recommend her to anyone wanting to learn French!Ashley, 3 lessons with Gabriela

With hardly 2 weeks left for ACT, I wanted to get someone to help my daughter with Reading and English parts of the ACT test. Gabriela quickly put together a customized program, after meeting the first time that included homework outside of tutoring hours. After the second meeting (4 hrs total tutoring time), my daughter's practice tests saw a significant improvement (between 8 to 10 points). She was able to apply all strategies that Gabriela taught her. I highly recommend Gabriela for any of language help she provides but would personally recommend her for Reading and English sections of standardized testing. I feel she is highly skilled in customizing a tailored program for the student rather than a one size fits all approach.Uma, 2 lessons with Gabriela
