Every learner needs a helping hand at some time, whether it is homework help, strengthening of basic skills - or getting ahead - or even enriching learning for a high achiever. The best tutor for your child will be able to locate and harness individual learning styles, intelligence and interests, capitalizing on innate strengths to provide measurable changes and progress from the investment of time, money and effort.

I am Texas classroom teacher certified to teach all four core subjects (English Language Arts-reading/writing, science, social studies and math) to students in grades four through eight. Further, I am state certified to teach English as a Second Language to students learning to speak English (ESL/ELL) in the same grades.

My classroom and tutoring experience includes sixth-grade ELA, seventh-grade ELA, seventh-grade Talented and Gifted ELA, seventh-grade pre-AP ELA, seventh-grade journalism and seventh-grade writing, and I am exceedingly proud of my more than a thousand TAKS and STAAR students (in reading comprehension, written composition, and revising and editing) who have achieved better scores in a school subject, test-taking success, skill improvement or studying abilities.

I am familiar with and have training and expertise in locating and correcting the reading difficulties that underlie the bulk of academic problems and am familiar with educational theory and instructional strategies for all levels of K-12 via my experience as a substitute instructor in public and private schools. This includes creating and interpreting ongoing assessment and formative evaluation, but is more focused on providing individualized, hands-on activities that approach difficult concepts in novel ways.

I have a record of success in working with dyslexia, learning disabilities and students with other special needs (including addressing high-stakes testing anxiety) in an inclusive, differentiated setting. A nonjudgmental encourager of academic risk-taking, my goal is to meet your student where he is and empower him not only to achieve in his education, but to conquer setbacks and difficulties with positive reinforcement/encouragement, creativity and flexibility. A lot of learning can take place when there is growth – or rebirth – in the student's attitude toward learning and school.

A student's needs for remediation, support or maintenance, academic enrichment or test prep is best met with a customized curriculum combined with ongoing assessment, analysis and appraisal, with a touch of motivation and heaps of parental communication: feedback on goals and objectives for the student, session content, progress or hindrances, and plans for the future. It is my firm desire to provide this through individual tutoring, student by student.
