Chris M

Sometimes life presents us with special learning challenges. One of my greatest joys? To help others overcome these challenges so they can experience success in academic and cultural pursuits. I’m Chris – and I can help!

My educational background:

Bachelors of Arts degree from The College of Wooster, in Ohio, majoring in the History of Architecture with minors in Chemistry and German. A late musical bloomer, I’ve even performed with the Clear Lake Symphony in the first violin section.

To balance both form and content, I earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from Colorado Technical University. While a student, I was a tutor to engineering students for mathematics and engineering science. I’ve also taught for several years in public schools for algebra, trigonometry, geometry, pre-calculus, chemistry, physics, English, art, and special education.

A semi-retired systems engineer, formerly with the Johnson Space Center, I now serve as a research engineering consultant to private industry. I continue to use my skills in data analysis and renewable energy technology.

I love math at all levels. Algebra is the cornerstone of all mathematics. Whether a student’s problem is the classroom itself, test anxiety, or special learning challenges, these complex problems are actually composed of a series of smaller, simpler problems. So? We isolate, “unchunk” and solve the simple problem, regroup and gently move forward – to success!

The recent advances in neural science relating to ADD and AD/HD can help create an effective framework to overcome these type learning obstacles. Through these tools, I was able to help a young man who was very discouraged by some of these challenges. He just couldn’t “get” high school math but, by our working together, he clearly “got” the math principles and completed his math requirement. He’s now enjoying success in his freshman year at college.

When a frustrated and struggling student discovers that he or she can solve problems, then he or she begins to believe success can be achieved. This is the golden moment that tutoring can bring.

If you or a loved one is facing learning obstacles, let’s meet! I have a passion for tutoring and I believe I can help.
