About Stephanie

Language is a true passion of mine, and that passion led me to earn a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Missouri - Columbia and a Master of Arts in Germanic Language from the University of Texas at Austin, where I was a teaching assistant. In addition to my time at UT-Austin, I have also owned and operated my own tutoring business, as well as taught English as a Second Language at ELS Language Center for almost two years. Coaching students in a one-on-one environment is where I thrive as a teacher. I have a well-honed knack for understanding what students are trying to say in the target language and helping them to express their ideas in a way that makes them feel validated and confident. One of the most important philosophies I adhere to is that making mistakes is vital to the language learning process. By creating a comfortable and relaxed environment, I help students to shed their language anxiety and enjoy the process of learning a new language. If you are looking for a thoughtful and experienced language coach, please consider contacting me. Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

In addition to the teacher development training I have completed at ELS, I have also completed a 120-Hour TEFL Certification (Teaching English as a Foreign Language).
