University of Houston-Victoria (Communications)
Hello parents and students,
As a former college mentor and substitute teacher, I have enjoyed working one-on-one and in small groups with students ranging from first grade to seniors in high school. There is nothing more satisfying than being part of the learning experience for students seeking to better themselves. It's not just about hitting the books and drilling the students. It's about creating an attitude and drive that makes the students want to rise above the rest and be noticed for their accomplishments.
As for myself, I hold a Bachelor of Science in Communications from UHV and an Associate of Arts from Victoria College. I've also completed half a diploma program in Residential Planning from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. Through my military experience I was able to travel around the world and interact first hand with many different cultures. Communications is a huge and important part of everyone's life. I've had the opportunity to work in fields that include: Marketing, Public Relations, Management, and Teaching. These experiences on top of having completed coursework in English, Literature, Communications, and Public Speaking, have made me the strong communicator I am today.
Through fun, interactive, and sometimes entertaining methods of tutoring, I have seen many of my peers and former students accomplish more than even they gave themselves credit for. Open two-way communications is important. The student's as well as the parent's input is a key element in determining the correct and best way to approach the learning environment with the student. Everyone is different, something I never forget. My initial approach to tutoring is one-on-one. If I find that a different approach is necessary, then I do whatever will benefit the student the most.
I bring a lot of knowledge and experience to the table. It's ultimately up to you to pull up a chair.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

I went from drawing stick figures to being recognized as an outstanding still-life artist. I've completed multiple classes from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh.
I have four years of military training in which I was obligated to maintain an above average fitness level. I've had regular workout routines since I was 18. I have been mentored by a professional bodybuilder as to proper exercise routines and techniques that are geared towards an individual's abilities. I'm very knowledgeable and familiar with workout equipment and how to target specific muscle groups.
I have a Bachelor of Science in Communications. I've completed courses from basic public speaking to advanced public speaking. I've done numerous speeches in front of both small and large groups of people. I've gone from having stage fright to having stage presence.
