Bio

I’ve been happily married for 47 years. We have grown children and 17 grandchildren. We live in San Marcos Texas, which is half-way between Austin and San Antonio. We have lived in 9 states in every part of the country and I have visited 48 states – two more to go: North Dakota and Wisconsin. I’ve also lived in three foreign countries, Germany, Japan and the UK and I’ve visited six additional countries. I love visiting small towns and national parks and I’ve been to 22 of them. You can tell geography has been a large part of my life.

I have studied and worked in the physical sciences most of my life. I have a B.S. degree from the University of Utah in physical geography (geospatial science) with enough hours for a minor in geology. I have an M.S. degree from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska in Science Education. I also have 18 post-graduate hours in adult learning and education technology from the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland.

I was an Air Force image analyst for eight years where I studied the earth from aerial photographs. For four years I taught U.S. Government geospatial analysts how to analyze multi-spectral imagery and for a year and half I taught a physical science class at a junior college in Maryland. From there I moved to teaching physical science college classes online. In 2005 I taught my first online class in General Geology, and I followed that with ten courses each in Intro to Physical Science and Intro to Earth & Space Science.

Tell me about yourself and what areas of science interest you? Give me an opportunity to help you understand some concepts in the physical sciences. When you understand a concept for the first time, like the difference between vector and raster data, or balancing a chemical equation; when that light goes on, you feel like you can handle anything! I still keep in contact with former students on Facebook, students who discovered that science can be fun. It can be fun for you too; so let me help you open scientific windows that have been closed to you in the past, okay? Contact me and let’s schedule some lessons in basic chemistry, geology, geography, astronomy and not my favorite, but we can tackle some basic physics as well. I especially like the electromagnetic spectrum, fun stuff!

Public Speaking

Public Speaking

I have been very comfortable in front of audiences large and small from an early age. At age 18, I gave a commencement speech before 1,400 people at the Assembly Hall in Salt Lake City, Utah. In my profession as a corporate educator, and a college professor, and also a religious instructor, I managed the learning environment for many years using effective communication, presentation, and questioning skills. In 2003 I earned the Competent Toastmaster credential from Toastmasters International for completion of the Communication and Leadership Program. I will be pleased to share with you the public speaking skills I have learned to give you the confidence to speak to audiences large and small.
