About Jocelyn

My background is engineering and science...and music and drama, and I just retired from the Army Reserves after 31 years. I have worked as a materials engineer, manufacturing supervisor, quality engineer, data quality and data architecture lead and spent some time teaching high school math, also. What I found is if you do not possess a comfortable understanding of math basics, all the higher math and science is more difficult than it needs to be. I had to hire a tutor to get me through calculus since I never developed good study habits, so I know where you're coming from.

My job as a tutor is to ensure you are comfortable with the materials so you can do your homework successfully to prepare you for exams as well as higher math and science courses. Even if you are not a math or science major, a good math foundation will help in any area you pursue--music, counseling, theater, and all the sciences. And strangely, most people I know actually HAVE used their algebra, geometry and trigonometry for things not job related. You WILL use your math a lot more than you think, so let's make it something that becomes easy for you.

A few years ago I ended up "accidently" teaching math at the high school level--algebra and pre-calculus, and realized I LOVE teaching. As an engineer, I could not survive on the salary, but decided this would be great fun in retirement. So, here I am--math is the one subject where you get an answer...ONE answer, and you KNOW when you have it.

Don't waste your study time being frustrated. Call for help. And sooner is better. Find someone who speaks YOUR language so that math becomes easier, and possibly even fun.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
