I have been tutoring since I entered college in 2012. In the beginning, I was just helping with homework. After months of obvious progress my name was being sent around the neighborhood! I moved to Costa Rica and have been teaching English and Spanish, as well as tutoring dozens of children. I am excited to start tutoring in Texas again!
I love children and I love education, so tutoring has been easily enjoyable. I try to make tutoring fun, and less dry than people think it needs to be. I believe in book work as well as application to life. I try to make education fun, so kids will want to keep up the practice without hesitation! Warm ups are how I start every session, something quick and fun to get the mind going. Then we will do an intensive study of the lesson at hand, followed by a lot of practice. I will of course add activities that kids enjoy into the lessons, because a bored student is not a motivated student! I promise results and a new confidence in each of my students!
I have lived in Latin America for almost 2 years, teaching Spanish to many Americans and Canadians. I adore the Spanish language and I have developed a great curriculum to teach Spanish from scratch!
After years of helping English and Spanish speakers learn and practice English, I am very confident in my tutoring abilities. The results have been incredible and I am always so proud of my students when they can properly ask questions or say sentences! I have a TEFL certification as well.
Tutoring any subject is easy for me, as long as I am told a few minutes in advance what it is I am tutoring. I have relearned so many topics at the drop of a pin to help students.
This is just an extra qualification. I have been practicing yoga for 5 years and I feel that it is important if a child is frustrated, to take a 5 minute yoga break if they desire. Yoga sets the mind back where it needs to be, and is proven to help with the stresses of school.
I would love to tutor you/your children in any of the areas I have mentioned! I am a very outgoing, motivated person and when working with students I really try to make them confident and proud of what they do, even if it is just a little thing! In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
