About David

My main objective is to help students develop basic skills required to obtain entry-level occupational employment upon the completion of a secondary or post-secondary educational career and technical education program. As a graduate student at ENMU, I introduced a tutoring program for Career and Technical Education students at San Elizario High School. The program was designed to help students with career awareness and the development of skills needed for post-secondary preparation in the following areas: (1) develop effective communication and leadership skills, (2) positive attitudes and good study habits and ethics, (3) a sense of responsibility toward learning, (4) critical thinking skills that are required for decision making and problem solving related to the work place, and (5) the skills necessary to conduct a job search and secure employment.

My prior work experiences include teaching automotive technology as an adjunct instructor for both El Paso Community College and Western New Mexico University Automotive Technology Programs. My primary teaching assignments included teaching automotive fuel systems, automotive brake systems, automotive electrical systems, and automotive engine performance diagnosis and analysis courses. I also have worked as a substitute teacher for two different school districts in the El Paso area to include all grade levels (K-12) in all content subject areas.

My education consists of a Master’s Degree in Education (Professional Technical Education) from Eastern New Mexico University in 2012, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Education (Career and Technical Education) from Western New Mexico University in 2007. I also have an Associate’s of Applied Science Degree in Automotive Technology from El Paso Community College, 1989.

I have nine years' experience working as a substitute teacher in K-12 for two different school districts, and three years' experience as an adjunct instructor for both El Paso Community College and Western New Mexico University, secondary teaching automotive technology courses. I was an acting customer service manager (in the automotive industry) for two years, with thirteen years experience working as an automotive technician for Sears Auto Center.

I completed my Practice Teaching at San Elizario High School, in San Elizario, TX. During my 16-week internship, I taught automotive technology courses for high school juniors and seniors. As an intern, my primary instructional methods were in automotive brake, steering and suspension, basic automotive electrical systems, and automotive engine performance diagnosis and analysis. While at San Elizario High School I help the automotive technology students develop and build brakes and a suspension and steering systems training unit to be used by future students. The students gathered information from service manufactures manuals such as specifications, component names, and repair procedures, develop a list of parts required and a budget proposal. The students then developed a plan and fabricated the training unit.

My main objective is to help students develop basic skills required to obtain entry-level occupational employment upon the completion of a secondary or post-secondary educational career and technical education programs.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
