Within every great teacher is an even greater student, and every great student is filled with an insatiable curiosity and ceaseless desire to improve their own knowledge with the requisite humility to learn from collaboration with others. I see teaching not as a hierarchical transmission of information from expert to pupil, but as a dynamic process of iterative learning where the expert continually hones expertise through the student's inquisitive probing.

In my four years of tutoring, I have found that my greatest successes come when I have learned as much from my students as they have from me. My approach to teaching is rooted in a popular education framework whereby we engage with the material in a practical and personal manner which affords students the flexibility and creativity to eschew hackneyed formulas of knowledge and embrace a more stylized and comfortable understanding. I believe that epistemology matters, and there's no reason to study general relativity if we aren't doing so with the same passion and vigor as Albert Einstein. It is up to the open-eyed yet disciplined teacher to ensure that students feel the value of the material, and only then will they be ready and willing to learn.

I received my degree in economics from Duke University, which boasts one of the United States' top ranked economics departments.

I completed the French Language curriculum at Louisiana State University and participated in a prestigious French immersion program at the University of St. Ann in Nova Scotia, Canada.

I am an award-winning academic, creative, and strategic writer, having received the Alona E. Evans Prize in International Law and the Karsh Alumni Award from Duke University. I also served as a journalist and editor for the Duke Political Review and have experience as a screenwriter.

I have an extensive background in the social sciences including a deep knowledge of American and world history.

Knowledgeable, patient, and great explainer

I'm currently in graduate school for international relations. As a requirement, I need to complete a course in International Economics. I've never been great at math and while the global market is interesting. The graphs, models, and equations can be very complex. Since my first tutoring session with Lama, she's been nothing but patient with me. She explains things in a way I can never understand during class and will repeat things over and over until I fully grasp the concept. Even my professor has noticed an improvement in the questions I'm asking and how in-depth I'm understanding the concepts. If you're looking for a tutor that is patient, will work with you not just teach you then I definitely recommend Lama.

Good explanation

Great teacher, broke the questions down and made connections between problems. I was able to understand how to do them.

very helpful

Lama always has a helpful way of clearing up misunderstandings in a very rigorous subject. I always feel better after I meet with her

Very helpful

Lama absolutely killed it. I came in with various econometrics questions and a general lack of understanding of certain concepts, and by the end, I felt miles ahead of where I was before the session.
