Bio

My name is Daniel (or Danny if you prefer). The majority of my life has been focused around education in the field of mathematics. Of course, I like to do other things for fun (Escape the Rooms, play softball, ride roller coasters, etc.) but as far as my passion is concerned, I have always loved helping students get over that initial hurdle that comes with learning a subject for the first time.

Throughout my years of tutoring, I have mentored students of a variety of ages and at a variety of levels, all in the field of mathematics. My tutoring experience ranges from elementary level mathematics up through Calculus I, II, and my favorite subject: Statistics. Because of my experiences tutoring such a variety of subjects, I am aware of the skills that are particularly important for students to internalize and grasp for later topics in the course, and to succeed in future courses.

Regardless of the level of the student, I always adjust my approach to match the student's needs. This helps us to make the best use of our time so that the student can benefit as much as possible during our sessions. What I love most about tutoring is watching a student come out the sessions with both a new set of skills, as well as a renewed appreciation for the subject. I often find that mathematical skills translate directly with the student's level of confidence for the subject, so it is my job to aim to improve both,

I have earned a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, as well as a Master's degree in Statistics. I am currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Educational Psychology, with an emphasis in Quantitative Methods. Throughout all of this time in school, I have learned a lot about which methods are effective for tutoring sessions, and which methods tend to work less well. Still, I never lose sight of how it feels to be learning a subject for the first time. Because of this, my tutoring approach is usually aimed to help my students based on their needs and their current level of understanding, rather than my own.

I encourage you to reach out to me if you feel that you are struggling with specific math skills, if you feel that you have missed a set of skills that are needed for a current course, or if you are aiming to improve your skills for an upcoming test or future courses. I am happy to meet with you so that we can learn together, so please feel free to reach out to me! :)

After obtaining my Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, I chose to focus my concentration on Statistics. I obtained my Master's degree in Statistics and Scientific Computation at the University of Texas at Austin. I am currently pursuing a doctoral degree in Educational Psychology, with an emphasis on Quantitative Methods (statistical procedures used for educational research). I have also taught an Introductory Statistics course at the University of Texas at Austin, been a TA for numerous graduate level Statistics courses, and have tutored students in classes such as Introductory Statistics, Biostatistics, Research Methods, and more.

While obtaining my Master's degree in Statistics, I served as the lead Teaching Assistant (TA) for a class of 100 students at the University of Texas at Austin for two consecutive semesters. As the TA for Biostatistics, I led lab lectures, held office hours, and graded assignments throughout the semester. In particular to the lab component of the course, the students primarily used the R software for data analyses, and this is what I am most familiar with.

Knowledgeable and patient tutor

Very patient. Willing to answer questions relevant to epidemiology applications where I am getting my MPH. Took me through the basics step by step to make sure that I got what I was supposed to be learning. Came away feeling I had grasped basic information that I had been missing in class.
