About Roland

I am a senior, graduating in Fall 2016 at UTSA in Electrical Engineer. I have experience tutoring and mentoring college, middle, and high school students with different courses. I love to try to teach and show how easy math and science becomes with tricks and easy methods of learning and retaining what was learned.

Since I am a current student, I believe this gives me an edge over some of the other tutors. I know exactly how a student feels when he does not understand how to start problems or understand any concepts. I will not only teach a student how to become excellent at math or science but also how to be an excellent student in a class.

As far as my personality, I am very sociable and a good listener. I understand that in order to help a student learn, I need to come to their personal understanding level so I can know how to help them.

I have an Associates degree in Mathematics. I love math and the wonderful tricks that make it so easy and understandable. Many teachers teach math without illustrations; this is the reason why math seems so hard. I love to teach with illustrations and pictures. This helped me learn math, quickly and easily.

I have an Associates degree in Electrical Engineering. This degree was the basic principles of being an electrical engineer. In Fall 2016, I will complete my last two classes. I have a great knowledge of the simple concepts from circuits (network theory-which is circuitry theory) to mathematical computations to design work. I also interned as an Electrical Engineer, which gave me more experience of what an engineer actually does, how he cooperates with others, and what the expectations are required of an engineer in the "real world" setting.

I understand that learning new material is hard, but with practice, I know I can help students become successful not only in a class but also in life. If you need help, do not hesitate to contact me. Set up a scheduled lesson with me. I am looking forward to helping you succeed in your studies.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

C

I took various computer programming classes which used C. I also program a robot in Arduino, which used the C language. I took CS 1713 Intro to Computer Programming II and CS 2123 Data Structures.

Drums

I have been drumming since 2011. I used to drum for a church. Now I drum recreationally.

Electrical Engineering

I have an Associates degree in Electrical Engineering (EE). This degree was the basic principles of being an electrical engineer. In Fall 2016, I will complete my last two classes to completing my BS in EE.

Linux

I have partitioned my Windows computer to Linux Ubuntu 12.04. I have taken courses in computer science which required the use of Linux OS and making programs in C using terminal window.

Macintosh

I currently own various Apple products such as Macintosh, Macbook Pro, iPad Mini, and iPod. I daily use these products and update/troubleshoot all Apple products if necessary. All are working and running excellently.

MATLAB

I took a course called Data Analysis and Visualization using MATLAB (CS 1173) at UTSA. I have done various project in MATLAB. I am currently using it for my final design project in signal processing.
