About Ralph

As demonstrated by my work experience, I have always been in a position of helping, teaching, and guiding others. By nature, I am a person who wants to help and take care of people. I am ready to utilize my skills of teaching, nurturing, and helping students. I have had the experience of planning and implementing various types of interventions. I also understand the role that data plays when implementing and establishing intervention plans.

Last school year I was employed by Southwest Independent School District as a fifth grade teacher at Bob Hope Elementary. My qualifications include 10 years of elementary teaching experience in third (3) and fifth grades (7). My main goal is to show students that learning is a lifelong experience. Please consider me as your tutor.

Students will be shown different ways to solve the same math problem and they will be taught problem-solving strategies that can be applied to any math problem.

My students have a high success rate in passing 5th Grade Math, Reading and Science STAAR tests. Students will be taught test-taking strategies that can be used on the STAAR test. This is extremely important because next year's STAAR Tests will be reduced to 2 hours each.

I will provide creative lesson plans, detailed student evaluations and highly praised instructional delivery. I will implement the AVID system to get your child organized (first step for the successful student).

I am passionate in my commitment to three things: maximizing individual student performance, inspiring students’ interest in technology and instilling a sense of self-worth among all students. I have dedicated my career to each of these pursuits. I am confident that I can create a productive learning environment that is student-centered for your child.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

STAAR

Last school year I was employed by Southwest Independent School District as a fifth grade teacher at Bob Hope Elementary. My qualifications include 10 years of elementary teaching experience in third (3) and fifth grades (7). My classroom students have always had a high success rate in passing standardized tests. I have provided effective classroom management, creative lesson plans, detailed student evaluations and highly praised instructional delivery. This year I provided one-to-one tutoring in the Northeast Independent School District for those students that needed additional help in passing the STAAR Test.

Study Skills

I have completed the certification tests for Generalist Education grades 1-8 and have 10 years of working with students in a school environment. In addition to my several years of professional development as an elementary teacher I have been trained in the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) college readiness system. As a result, I have an understanding of, and practical experience with, AVID frameworks, methodologies and strategies.
AVID is a college readiness program designed to help students develop the skills they need to be successful in college. The program places special emphasis on critical thinking, teamwork, organization and reading skills. Student success skills form the foundation of AVID Elementary program.
