I have been a Special Education teacher for the past 6 years. I received my Bachelor's from Brigham Young University in Special Education and Teaching English as a Second Language in 2011. I later received a Master's degree in Reading & Literacy. During that time, I discovered my passion for teaching reading and began my path to becoming a certified Orton-Gillingham tutor in the Wilson Reading System. I have earned my Level I and II certification to teach Wilson Steps 1-12 to individuals as well as to groups of students.

I have a strong passion for teaching reading to all school-age children. I believe every student can learn if given the proper intervention, time, and devotion. I love to work with students to help them achieve their potential and strengthen their confidence.
I love teaching reading and I love to help students feel successful!

I also have experience assisting in the homeschooling process. I have previously provided part-time homeschool instruction to support parents looking for particular subject matter.

I have participated in professional learning community teams including general education, special education, and specialist teachers discussing the individual needs of students and facilitating interventions to help each child succeed. I am currently TEA certified for Special Education. I have privately tutored students for the past 4 years. My experience across all elementary grade levels has given me an opportunity to learn a wide range of curriculum necessary to succeed in the elementary grades. Experience in the field of special education has given me a chance to work with a diverse population of learners in small group and individual settings. I have been able to tailor my teaching to meet the unique needs of children both in the school setting as well as in the private education sector with tutoring. I will be able to use my prior experience in the school setting and private education sector to help bring homeschooled children the proper instruction they need to succeed.

Purposeful certified research based reading tutor

Janessa is a highly qualified reading instructor. Beyond having a master's degree in reading and teaching special education, Janessa is a certified Wilson Reading L2 instructor. If your child has dyslexia, make sure you hire an instructor who is certified in a research based program (like Wilson, Scottish Rite Take Flight, Barton, Orton Gillingham). Janessa is purposeful in her teaching. During each lesson she gives patient instruction and really involves her student in the lesson. We are fortunate to have her.
