About Chris

I am a mechanical engineering student about to graduate with a math minor. I love to teach and believe that a good tutoring relationship improves the mental well-being of everyone involved. I have completed all of the advanced math, science, and engineering courses and carry a good GPA.

I have also passed the Fundamentals of Engineering licensing exam and scored in the 95th percentile on the GRE. In addition to my studies at the University, I also am a research assistant in the Robotics and Motion Lab which gives me a great deal of enjoyment and intellectual stimulation.

I have a history of teaching math to students of all ages. I possess a talent and a passion for math which I work hard to instill in others.

As an engineering student, I am well versed in many branches of science, especially physics. I find all sciences endlessly fascinating, and believe that all students can build a love of science.

I scored in the 98th percentile on the SATs, including the reading portion. I have tutored several past students who have achieved significant increases in their scores.

My schedule is flexible, and I would love to meet with you and hopefully help you. Please contact me with any questions.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Algebra 1

Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Calculus are all core parts of a solid mathematics education. I teach students all the tools they need to be successful and confident in math. This means teaching more than just the core concepts. It also means teaching students the logical process of analyzing, understanding, and thinking through a problem. This, above all else, increases a student's confidence and develops life-long math literacy.

Algebra 2

Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Calculus are all core parts of a solid mathematics education. I teach students all the tools they need to be successful and confident in math. This means teaching more than just the core concepts. It also means teaching students the logical process of analyzing, understanding, and thinking through a problem. This, above all else, increases a student's confidence and develops life-long math literacy.

Astronomy

I have been fascinated by Astronomy ever since early childhood. I have taken several college level courses and tutored other students along the way. This is a subject I have good knowledge of and a deep passion for.

Biology

Biology, Chemistry, and Geology are all core parts of a solid education in the Physical Sciences. I teach students all the tools they need to be successful and confident in science. This means teaching more than just the core concepts. It also means teaching students the logical process of analyzing, understanding, and thinking through questions. This, above all else, increases a student's confidence and develops life-long science literacy.

Calculus

I have been studying Calculus since my sophomore year in high school. My Engineering degree and Mathematics minor both involve extensive training in advanced mathematical concepts. Calculus lies at the core of many of these concepts, and is a subject I am very familiar with.

Chemistry

I have studied Chemistry at the middle school, high school, and university level. I also have tutored students at each of these levels. Chemistry is a primary science, and highly valuable to a student's science literacy. I teach students the concepts necessary to success in Chemistry, as well as the process of intelligent analysis and problem solving.

Geology

With a solid educational background in all physical sciences, I am well studied in Geology. I am, however, not an expert at the most advanced levels of Geology. Therefore, I am qualified to tutor students at the middle school and high school level, but not the university level.

Geometry

As an Engineering major, and a Mathematics minor, I have many years of education in Geometry. In addition to studying Geometry directly, it also been a principal component of all advanced mathematics. Tutoring mathematics of all kinds is also something I am experienced in, teaching students the fundamental principles as well as the problem solving process to ensure success.

GRE

I am a college Senior myself, preparing for graduate school. I have a GPA over 3.0 in a demanding major and minor. I have helped several fellow students prepare for the exam. My own scores are 166 Verbal, 165 Quantitative, with a 5.5 Writing.

Mechanical Engineering

I am currently in my final semester of a Bachelor's degree program in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Texas at San Antonio. I have taken and passed all of the subject matter in the program and am nearing graduation. My GPA in this program is over 3.0. Additionally, I have taken and passed the Fundamentals of Engineering exam, which is the state licensing exam for professional engineers.

Physical Science

Physical Sciences have been a core part of my education from elementary school all the way through college. I have many years of experience with both studying and tutoring the Physical Sciences. I believe that developing a comprehensive foundation in the sciences is an excellent building block for future success.

Physics

I have enjoyed and excelled at physics since taking Honors Physics in high school. My Mechanical Engineering degree requires extensive knowledge and application of advanced physics concepts. I also have tutored other students who were struggling. As a result, I have extensive practice in using and teaching physics.

Prealgebra

I first learned the basics of Pre-Algebra in 6th grade, and have been developing my mathematics skills ever since. From Pre-Algebra through advanced Calculus, I have tutored many students in mathematics and witnessed the tremendous improvements in their scores and their confidence. I feel that it is valuable for students to develop a good foundation in mathematics early, so they are confident and strong in math as they advance.

Precalculus

My education in Pre-Calculus and Calculus began early in high school, and has been a crucial component of my entire education since. As a result, I have extensive practical experience in applying and teaching all levels of Calculus. While many students find advanced forms of math intimidating, I find that most are actually quite capable of success. A little guidance to teach the students how to analyze and think through a problem gives students the confidence to tackle what they once thought they couldn't.

PSAT

I first began tutoring in order to help prepare high school students for the SAT. This experience extends to preparation for the PSAT as well. I focus on helping the student learn how to assess a question and derive the solution. I do this by helping guide their process, ultimately teaching them to be able to find their answers with confidence.

SAT Math

I have tutored many high school students in SAT Math, resulting in substantial improvements in scores and confidence. I teach students not only the concepts that are applied during the test, but also the process of problem analysis and solution. Improving these skills not only gives students a better understanding of the subject, but greater confidence in their ability to think through a problem.

SAT Reading

I have tutored many high school students in SAT Reading, resulting in substantial improvements in scores and confidence. I teach students not only the concepts that are applied during the test, but also the process of analyzing and developing ideas. Improving these skills not only gives students a better understanding of the subject, but greater confidence in their ability to read and write thoughtfully.

SAT Writing

I have tutored many high school students in SAT Writing, resulting in substantial improvements in scores and confidence. I teach students not only the concepts that are applied during the test, but also the process of analyzing and developing ideas. Improving these skills not only gives students a better understanding of the subject, but greater confidence in their ability to write thoughtfully.

Trigonometry

Trigonometry is a branch of mathematics that is notorious for confusing students. Fortunately, the principles of Trigonometry are not as challenging as they may seem. A solid foundation in the principles of Trigonometry leads to a thorough understanding of the subject, as well as improved confidence when tackling math problems at any level.
