About Emily

My name is Emily and I am a recent Fall 2015 graduate from the University of Texas at San Antonio with a BA in Anthropology. Anthropology is the study of humans and is divided into four sub-disciplines, such as archaeology, biological anthropology, cultural anthropology, and linguistics. I am interested in cultural anthropology which can then be broken down into another sub-discipline called medical anthropology, which is similar to public health. During my time at UTSA, I was also enthusiastically involved in the community through extracurricular activities and volunteer events. These events gave me the opportunity to mentor my peers. I was the Vice President of the Anthropological Society, where we hosted weekly meetings to inform our members about departmental activities, service projects, as well as plan our society outreach events and facilitate critical discussion. We participated in United to Serve, Best Fest, and educational field trips to the Center for Archaeological Research. We have volunteered at Primarily Primates, Center for Archaeological Research, and Haven for Hope. I also independently volunteered at San Antonio Food Bank and Common Ground Relief in New Orleans, LA.

With all of these events, I have mentored volunteers and our society members on how to effectively learn curriculum in classes and gain resume building skills. I have also assisted multiple class members in group study sessions, improving student's grades up to three grade letters. I am currently in the process of applying to graduate school, where I hope to obtain a Masters of Public Health with a specific focus in Epidemiology or Global Health. I thoroughly enjoy writing, editing, teaching, reading, and coming up with creative ways to remember subject matter.

I have completed over 20 courses in Anthropology at UTSA.

My degree taught me critical thinking, reading comprehension, and effective verbal and written communication skills. I write at least two papers in each Anthropology course. I am an expert on research papers and bibliographies. I can teach any curriculum as long as I have the tools to do so, such as ACT study materials and school homework.

I am personable, understanding, and patient. I understand the frustrations of studying and test taking. I am an enthusiastic teacher that loves to invent creative ways to remember course material.
