University of Texas at San Antonio (PhD)
I started teaching Biology for Science Majors, Anatomy and Physiology, and Nutrition at community college and love interacting with students. The experience I gained working with a wide variety of learning styles has made teaching at the University level much easier. As a Licensed Massage Therapist, I teach clients about their bodies and how to improve their health through body awareness, exercise and nutrition. After graduating Cum Laude with my Bachelors of Science, then obtaining my Ph.D. in Biology, I can honestly say that life to me is all about further education!
I am willing to do online tutoring, as well as, face to face tutoring. I value your time and hope that you will respect my time by giving me a 24 hour cancellation notice if we are scheduled to meet face to face as I'm willing to travel across town and into surrounding areas to meet you. Though I'd like to make the most out of our time, I want to ensure that you get the "A" and understand the material so will work with you on prioritizing material you may struggle with. Contact me and let's get started!
I graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor's of Science in Biology and loved every science class I attended. I loved Microbiology so much I thought I would become a microbiologist, until I took a Neuroscience course and realized I love learning how the human body works. As a result, I became a Neuroscientist and did research for a couple years. However, I soon realized that interacting with people who want to learn about their bodies and science is my calling. I've taught Biology for Science Majors, of which there is a large genetics component, Nutrition for Science Majors and Anatomy and Physiology along with the labs that go with these courses. I am constantly updating my Anatomy and Physiology information due to continuously improving my deep tissue, therapeutic massage techniques for athletes, trauma patients and the aging population. My strength in science strengthens my massage results.
I can help you understand biological sciences from a practical and theoretical point of view. This part of your education will impact how you decide to maintain your health, and most importantly, how to take a scientific viewpoint on all aspects of your life so that you may better yourself. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I received my pH.D. in Biology and worked with genetically modified rats (knock in for rhodopsin in different brain nuclei). Previously, I volunteered in a endocrine lab, isolating Human Growth Hormone fragments. I graduated with my Bachelor in Science, Cum Laude, of which my genetics class gave us a semester long project of in breeding and out breeding fruit flies to obtain specific phenotypes and genotypes. I feel my knowledge of genetics will be helpful to any Undergraduate level student studying genetics.
I have a pH.D. in Biology and graduated Cum Laude for my Bachelors in Science. I have taught Nutrition, as well as, Biology for Science Majors and Anatomy and Physiology I and II. Due to this, I know what key nutritional components are stressed in other science courses. I feel my knowledge and experience will be helpful for any undergraduate level student.
