University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (Linguistics)
I derive great pleasure from partnering with students in their pursuit of academic excellence, especially the mastery of language arts. I earned a baccalaureate in linguistics. I am passionate about language, beginning with my mother tongue. I possess natural interpersonal skills, a friendly personality, and a good sense of humor. I am meticulous, detail-oriented, careful, and precise. I am conscientious and hard-working.
From late January through mid-October, 2015, I worked with my 8-year-old son steadily on his schoolwork. With great patience I gave diligent and assiduous attention to detail in the completion and review of his daily homework assignments as well as in the study preparation for quizzes and exams. His first-quarter report card for the 2015–2016 academic year revealed all A's in English, Reading, Spelling, Math, Science, Social Studies, and Bible. I have been similarly working with my new 9-year-old son since 10/19/2015, and in just the first three weeks his mother and I witnessed a marked improvement in his penmanship. Also, his average nightly homework time has been reduced significantly.
I excel in English vocabulary, spelling, and grammar. I have paid experience as a proofreader. I am a clear, exact speaker with good pronunciation.
I speak, read, and write basic Spanish. Estudié español durante cuatro años en la escuela secundaria, y a través de la lectura de la Biblia en español y la práctica con mi madre puertorriqueña (hablante nativa), he mantenido mucho de lo que aprendí.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
