University of Texas at San Antonio (English and Mathematics)
My passion for teaching comes from a deeply rooted love for helping others achieve their goals through education. As an undergraduate student at the University of Texas at San Antonio, I received an A in many historically difficult courses such as Calculus I and II, Probability and Statistics, Calculus-based Physics I, Biosciences I, Genetics, General Chemistry I, and Organic Chemistry I. In most of my courses, I helped other students succeed academically. I have experience working with multiple students and working one-on-one.
As a learner, I recognize that textbooks provide organized and detailed information for each subject. As a teacher, I utilize textbooks in the learning process. I simplify the lesson plans in textbooks and outline a conceptual understanding of mathematical or scientific concepts. This allows learners to grasp the content and to be able to think critically about it. With a conceptual understanding, the need for formulas and equations can be identified. Since most understanding comes from the ability to recall and critically think about information, I guide students through questions and problem solving in order to best develop their knowledge of concepts.
In order to teach effectively, I often ask for feedback. If a student or a parent is not completely satisfied with my tutoring, I will not bill them.
I have a 24-hour cancellation policy. If a tutoring session is cancelled, I will offer a makeup session.
I hope that you will consider me for tutoring services and I look forward to helping you with your academic success! We used Joshua to help our 11th grade son with College Algebra. Joshua was very knowledgeable and my sons test scores improved drastically after just one session. We will continue to use him in the future.
Joshua is a great tutor, he helped me on the final exam review for genetics. I like his style of teaching and makes sure you the concept and he would give you examples on how to do the problem
Joshua has helped Ty bring his test scores up dramatically. Ty says that Joshua has helped tremendously. Joshua has been on time for every session which helps plan for Tys other studies.
He is able to dissect it to where it makes sense and you're able to really comprehend the material! Session went great!
Positive and encouraging! Statistics can be overwhelming, Joshua is able to break the concepts down to the simplest level to restructure the understanding process and focus on what you need.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I took 2 semesters of Bio-statistics related course work at the University of Texas at San Antonio. The first course was Calculus for bio-sciences. The second course was Statistics for biological applications. I received an A in the Calculus course and a B in the Statistics course. I also took a Statistics course for engineers. I received an A in that course.
I received college credit for Calculus in high school (with a grade of A). I also received an A in Calculus 2 and 3 in college.
I got an A in General Chemistry I and Organic Chemistry I & II at the University of Texas at San Antonio.
I took Genetics at the University of Texas at San Antonio. I was one of the few students to receive an A in the course. I helped several students in the course, so I have some experience in teaching the subject material.
I took Organic Chemistry I&II at the University of Texas at San Antonio. I received an A in both courses. In both courses I helped students understand the course material.
I aced Probability and Statistics. I helped several students in my class. I met with several students individually and helped them understand statistics.
