St. Mary's University (Mathematics and Economics)
Excellent tutoring for excellent results!
Everyone deserves a tutor who will not only guide them in their studies, but also push them toward academic success, be their own personal cheerleader, and believe that they can achieve their goals! With me, you will find that tutor. No matter your age or level of math, it is always a great idea to have someone to help you through it and support you all the way. With my sessions, I give 100% to my students through attention and genuine care to see them excel!
My name is Lexi and I am working on my B.S. in Economics and Mathematics at St. Mary's University. I specialize my tutoring in mathematics but am able to help with a variety of subjects. I achieved the award of Mu Alpha Theta in high school which is earned by taking 5 years of math in high school and not dropping below a 90 average. I am currently a senior at my university and vice president of St. Mary's Society of Mathematicians (Math Club!). I have freelance tutored in the past, assisting others in various math levels such as pre-calculus, algebra I, SAT tutoring, geometry, and elementary math . In the past I have volunteered with a Vacation Bible School which gave me experience in educating younger students (aged 6-12).
In addition, I have recently been accepted into the McNair Scholarship program which is geared toward preparing undergraduates for graduate school to receive their PhD. Through the program I am researching Statistics with a focus on modeling economic equations. Also, I have interned at the American Economics Association Summer Program (AEASP) where I had extensive training and presented research at the AEA Pipeline Conference.
For tutoring I ask that the student tells me about the topics you would like to cover (although it is not necessary) before hand. We would meet in a public area such as a Starbucks, library, etc. for safety reasons for both you and I. If acceptable (August through April), I ask that we meet at St. Mary's University Library. During our session we will go over the material topic by topic. We will usually go through the material taught in class and if a student doesn't understand a certain concept, I will help shine the light on the topic. I will explain how to go about solving simpler problems and we will work our way to more complex ones. I plan to completely cover any topics the student would like. We will walk through examples together and examine how to approach various sorts of the problems. Any other sort of assistance that you may need such as a project or homework can be brought up as well! The session is planned to revolve around you and your needs.

Amazing and patient! She helped me understand what I was doing incorrectly in the problems and how to solve them without just giving away the answers, but making me figure it out with her. She is the absolute best and I can't wait until our next session!
She takes her time and genuinely seems to have the best interest in making sure my daughter covers the math needed.
Alexis has been working with my daughter for the past two years. She has helped develop her confidence in her math skills. She is patient and always available. Her encouraging can-do attitude has helped my daughter to transform not only in her math abilities but in her confidence. I highly recommend this outstanding young woman.
I reached out to Alexis after I needed some clarification on a lesson we had just covered in my Calculus Class. She was extremely patient and helped me solve the areas that I needed help in so that I could understand the information. I highly recommend her!
Alexis is a great tutor. My daughter has learned so much in her tutoring sessions and she looks forward every week to seeing Alexis. Alexis is patient and encouraging. When my daughter has a question about a new math concept, she no longer feels frustrated because she knows Alexis will help her understand.
Alexis helped me solve various expressions with and without variables using the Order of Operations along with distributing negative signs.
I was having trouble catching up with Algebra 1 during my Freshman year in high school, but Alexis knew just what to do! She helped me with everything I needed and brought my grades up by several points. She even helped me ace a few tests I wouldn't have been able to without her help! She really knows what she's doing, and she's very nice and great with math.
We could not be happier with Alexis. She is patient and very knowledgeable. Alexis really listens to my daughter and addresses her needs. Alexis is always prepared for our tutoring sessions with problems to work on. She provides feedback after each session and provides me with her plan for the next week. My daughter attended tutoring at Sylvan Learning Center for 9 months, and I can honestly say that she has improved more in her few months of sessions with Alexis than she did at Sylvan. After only 3 sessions,, my daughter's math grade jumped from a 70 to an 86! I would highly recommend Alexis to anyone in need of a math tutor!
Ms. Kirstin, thank you for your lovely feedback! I greatly appreciate it. From day one it was such a pleasure working with your daughter. I am so proud of her achievements thus far and I look forward to seeing her success go even farther!
Alexis' knowledge, patience and ability to teach my son is amazing. In such a short time she has increased his skills and given him so much confidence that he now feels comfortable helping his peers. He looks forward to each tutoring session.
My daughter who is in her 10th grade have been tutored by Alexis G. On her first day with the tutor I was happy to hear from my daughter that she said "I now understood my subject clearly"; she explains it well." I can see in her eyes her excitement after that tutoring class. Every week she is looking forward to the tutoring.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
Algebra is the foundation for any mathematical level above it.We expand, we simplify, we solve. We begin to recognize techniques that help us simplify by combining like terms (and knowing how they're alike!) and using order of operations. The all-important part is solving X, and knowing how to do so. In Algebra I we explore problem solving, inequalities & absolute values, linear equations/ slope, systems of equations, laws of logs & exponents, rationals, quadratics, and radicals.
I received an A in Algebra 1 as well as additional tutoring/assisting my peers throughout high school as well as college.
I have assisted in a Vacation Bible School every summer as a leader helping children understand the stories of Christ. In addition, I have attended a Catholic institution ever since kindergarden, which accumulates to 14 years surrounded by biblical references and taking various religion/Catholicism courses. Also, I am Catholic and have a great understanding of the Word of the Lord.
Throughout high school I have assisted in elementary and junior high tutoring (especially in math and science). Through WyzAnt, I have been approved in elementary math and science as well. During my summers for the past 6 years I have additionally helped tutor younger children in summer camps. I have been told that I bring a sense of enjoyment to learning from various parents.
Whether it may be leaning fractions to multiplication to simply distinguishing shapes, I can absolutely help with your elementary math! Through patience and a positive attitude, I guide students to a better understanding toward negative numbers, rounding numbers, prime and composite numbers, rational and irrational numbers, and anything else that they may have on their plate!
I have assisted with elementary mathematics assignments for the past 5 years and always bring an excitement for math for younger students!
I have worked as a bookkeeper to advertise for a company using this application. I have made many advertisements pertaining to school using Publisher as well. If you are interested in making mailing labels, posters/flyers, articles, or brochures, I am able to help!
Pre algebra is the foundation of mathematics. It is less of how well you can calculate (which is still important!) but rather of how well you understand why math is set up in that way. Whether it comes to understanding various properties, to how graphs and functions work, to fundamentals of inequalities and equations, I can help! I have assisted in pre algebra for the last 5 years and continue to learn various teaching techniques that will ensure you a wonderful pre algebra learning experience!
I have played softball with my schools starting from 7th grade until my senior year in high school. During my high school years, on the varsity team, we won 3 regional championships as well as have placed 1st in our league 3 times. Through these years, I have quickly learned effective drills and training techniques that could help any softball player grow as an athlete.
I have taken multiple classes that involved study methods and time management for various classes as well as general study tips. The study skills I have learned vary from reading material (skimming, highlighting, key words, key phrases, etc.), when notecards are used best, how to make exceptional study guides, and other studying skills.
