Hello and good day! Hello and good day! I am currently working as the At-Risk coordinator for a local public school district, with 3 years prior as my district At-Risk coordinator, 7 years as our district's Math coordinator, 3 years as our district Math/Science middle/high school facilitator, and 7 years of teaching math and science to middle and high school students in a public alternative school.

I have a wealth of experience working with kids who are experiencing difficulty in passing state tests (TAKS Exit Level, STAAR EOC, even old TAAS!!!), nationally-administered college and military tests (SAT, ACT, ASVAB), graduate-level tests (GRE, GMAT, MCAT), as well as local certification tests like the GED and TSI. I can help you on both sides of the equation - I have extensive experience in math and science content teaching, have worked in consulting positions for math and science software providers, graded national tests in reading and science for companies such as Pearson and Harcourt, and have also worked with kids who have significant learning and behavior challenges to help them succeed in their studies.

I have also written math and science questions for companies such as Examgen and McGraw-Hill at the secondary level, so I am very familiar with how and why questions are asked on standardized tests. Finally, I have sat on a review panel for elementary grade math test creation for the Texas Education Agency, and am familiar with the process by which test questions are selected for Texas standardized tests.

I tutor in a "formally informal" manner. I can come to you or meet you in a neutral location (such as a Starbucks or public library), and request only a few things: be on time, ask any question that comes to mind, and never leave with a question unresolved. I will spend as much time as needed on any topic until my student UNDERSTANDS the material - I don't let kids tell me they have it if they don't! I'm patient and can work with a wide variety of kids - ADD/ADHD, special needs, regular education and G/T students.

I am great with kids AND parents, and will get you the results you need. If you're going to invest in your student's education... invest in someone who cares about it as much as YOU do!

Thanks, and I hope to talk to you soon!

I have extensive experience in administration of K-12 programs in mathematics and in at-risk student populations. I am the current K-12 At-Risk district coordinator in my district, and served as the K-12 Mathematics district coordinator for 7 years previously. I have a great deal of experience working with K-6 students in mathematics and in general intervention programs for reading, writing, and science as part of my at-risk work. Finally, I have directly taught 6th grade math and science in my previous stint as a middle/high school teacher.

I have taught study skills to a wide variety of middle and high school students during my teaching career in mathematics and science. I have also taught study skills specific to standardized tests (STAAR, TAKS, SAT/ACT) to students in need of more targeted help in studying. I help students both with general study skills and habits - time, organization, lists, so forth - as well as more specific study skills in math and science courses. I have had great success with students in middle and high school grades becoming much more efficient in getting work done and organizing themselves in a practical, durable manner.

ADHD

My expertise with working with ADD/ADHD students is extensive, and covers a variety of approaches. My strongest asset is my current status as my school's 504 coordinator, which has exposed me to state and national-level training on the ins and outs of what schools should have in place to support students with ADD/ADHD. I have used a number of the approaches I have learned in tutoring students, and have seen their success in a variety of subjects. I also work directly with my own son, who has ADD, and have seen his success improve with the approaches I take with him.
Special Needs,

Special Needs

I have worked with special needs children in various capacities since I began teaching in 1997. My experience includes work with 504, mildly autistic/Asperger's, Down's Syndrome, and LD children. I have used a variety of techniques to work with differently a led children in my classrooms, and am always patient and seek long-term gain while providing short-term progress. Special needs children tend to have many of the same inherent social needs as other children, and I interact with my special needs students differently than other students only as it is necessary to address the particular student's unique condition.

STAAR

I have taught summer courses for the last 5 years on STAAR preparation for reading and math at the middle school and high school level. I have also written the curriculum for these courses and for school-year supplementals for STAAR. I have administered the STAAR on my campuses and frequently monitor other campuses for STAAR compliance issues and technical help.

I have tutored students in TAKS math and science at all levels of MS and HS, from 6th grade mathematics and 8th grade science to Exit Level for both subjects. I have taught TAKS-driven courses in public high schools for both math and science, and have helped create intensive short courses to help students reach mastery of the TAKS test. As the TAKS phases out for the new STAAR testing, the high school seniors who still fall under the old TAKS guidelines require the attention to formula charts, understood knowledge, and testing procedures that my TAKS tutoring background provides.

Great interview skills and rapport building

We had our first meeting with Steven...could have been awkward, but, Steven was a great conversationalist and quickly and naturally built great rapport with Roman. They hit it off and found common intetests to talk about. So, introduction went incredibly well. We look forward to next session when we delve into Algebra and other areas
