About Michael

I am a math person (BS degree in mathematics from M.I.T.) with substantial experience and success in teaching and tutoring non-math people. I have 11 years experience teaching Algebra I, Algebra II, geometry, Precalculus, Calculus, Statistics and College Algebra in high school and college classrooms. In addition, I have more than 3 years of experience and success in our Math Tutoring Center, tutoring community college students in the entire range of math courses, including Developmental Math. Developmental Math courses are remedial courses designed to fill the holes in a student's math knowledge and groom them for success in the college math courses necessary for their degrees. My community college, Northwest Vista College, is ranked as having one of the most successful Developmental Math programs in the country, and I have extensive experience utilizing the successful methods developed there.

If math makes you anxious or you question your ability to "do math," I can help you. I am a very patient and genial person and will create a relaxed and friendly environment where you will be comfortable developing the confidence that you "can do math". I will teach you a set of easily understood tools with wide applicability in solving math problems. Importantly, I have multiple ways to present most math concepts, so if one approach doesn't work for you I can try another. I can supplement your textbook and classroom materials with my own large inventory of materials.

If you are a good math student but find yourself struggling, perhaps because you have difficulty understanding your teacher or find the pace too fast, I can help you. Not only can I teach you the "how" of the math, but I will explain the "why." Additionally, I will improve your problem solving and problem attack skills by sharing my skills in this area with you.

Whatever your reason for seeking help in math, not only do I have the knowledge and experience to help you, but I have the personality and communication skills be an effective tutor for you. I did graduate from M.I.T., and I do know my math, but I promise you that I AM NOT A NERD, and that you will find me easy to be with.

Explains basics so you understand not memorize — Michael explains calculus concepts in depth so that I understand them and can apply them to my assignments. Things that seemed complicated are actually logical and simple once he reviews them. I am much more confident about AP Calculus because I have him explaining it to me. ...
