Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Elementary (K-6th)

I attended and graduated the Kansas State University College of Education, majoring in secondary education history. As part of the A+ Texas Teachers Alternative Certification Program I completed the certification tests for Generalist Education grades 4-8 and Bilingual Education. My teaching experiences include In-School Suspension classroom, one-on-one tutoring, and three years as a bilingual 5th grade classroom teacher at Winston Elementary in Edgewood ISD. Also, I have worked as a Literary Writing EOC scorer for Pearson.

Social Studies

I graduated the Kansas State University College of Education, majoring in secondary education history. As part of my education I created a portfolio on The American Civil Rights Movement. I completed the certification tests for Generalist Education grades 4-8 and had to develop and teach Social Studies as part of the curriculum for my classroom. My students created a portfolio in order to prepare for the 8th Grade STAAR.

Study Skills

I have completed the certification tests for Generalist Education grades 4-8 and have 9 years of working with students in a school environment. In addition to my several years of professional development as an elementary teacher I have been trained in the Advancement Via Individual Determination (AVID) college readiness system. As a result, I have an understanding of, and practical experience with, AVID frameworks, methodologies and strategies.
