The key to doing well in math and science is understanding and applying concepts, which is what I stress. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a Ph.D. in psychology who is currently teaching at UTSA. I have tutored many students on the ACT and am very familiar with its contents and strategies.
I know the type of questions on the ACT exam and have done tutoring on the SAT exam and am very interested in helping students prepare for the ACT exam. There are strategies for doing better on the verbal portions of these types of tests, but the best strategy of all is to read a lot!

I teach biopsychology at the college level, and I lecture on the neurochemical and neuroanatomical basis of ADHD and the nature of the deficits in this disorder. The single-best method to do well on college entrance reading comprehension questions is to read a lot of books! Short of that, there are a few simple techniques that can help everyone do a little better on their reading comprehension scores.

There are different strategies for each. The major thing students need to do is to be able to learn the strategies and types of problems on the SAT. It never is good to go into this test unprepared!
