I have taught all facets of the Russian language for six years, and have lived and worked in Russia for almost four years. I am also certified by the state to teach high school History, Social Studies, and English as a second Language. I have over 20 years experience in teaching various subjects on the high school level and on the college level. My philosophy of education is that learning should be an enjoyable experience that stimulates a student to want to learn more. In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a Texas state certified educator, I successfully completed my required semester of student teaching in English as a Second Language (ESL) at Fox Tech High School in San Antonio, Texas. I also taught English as a Second Language to adults at San Antonio College.
I taught all facets of the Russian Language to U.S. Army Military Intelligence personnel at Fort Polk, Louisiana while employed by Central Texas College from August, 1986 through December, 1992. In December, 1995, I was invited to teach a semester of Russian at Georgia Southern University. I have also lived in Moscow, Russia from September, 1996 to June, 2000., where I was employed at the U.S Embassy. I have been identified as a native Russian speaker by the U.S. Department of State, Foreign Service Institute. I have achieved scores of 4+ Spoken, 4+ Listening, and 4 Reading on the Defense Language Proficiency test as reported by Inlingua Language Services of Arlington, Virginia. In 1990, I tested, and was awarded a rating for an instructor's job at the Defense Language Institute.
