About Nicolle

Summary of Experience:
In 2009, I received my Bachelor of Science degree in General Biology. Throughout college, I saw a need to help others and began tutoring for a short amount of time in 2006 for a young man who was failing his Biology class. With some motivation, learning, and studying he received A's in Biology for the duration of tutoring. I was also able to teach a high school student in Pre-Calculus and Physics from October 2010 to March 2011 who needed a certain GPA and Math test score to be eligible for acceptance into Massachusetts Maritime Academy. With some coaxing, reviewing, and studying, he was able to raise his grades. He was accepted in February and will start his training at Mass Maritime in August. Since then, I have tutored in elementary through college-level math, science, and English. Those subjects include college-level intermediate math, algebra I & II; high school-level Pre-Calculus, Geometry, Algebra, Physics, and Biology.

Teaching Style:
My teaching style can be described as "observant." I enjoy meeting new people of all ages and my students are some of my favorites. I realize that each student has a different personality which also means they have a unique way of learning and studying. I start the first session by giving the student some work that is easy for him or her, then increasing the difficulty until I can find the student's maximum potential. From there, I am better able to understand how the student learns, memorizes, and solves problems by looking at his or her progress and asking questions. I give students only the amount and level of work within their threshold, which greatly increases their potential in subsequent sessions.

Approved subjects are in bold.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Bible Studies

I have taken multiple Bible classes both, high school and college level and have a specific grasp on each of the books of the Bible. I have also memorized hundreds of Bible verses through the years and understand practical applications for each one. I would be qualified to teach most Bible courses.

Elementary (K-6th)

I have tutored elementary aged children in math and reading. These children were tutored through the No Child Left Behind program and needed much extra assistance in their classes. The one-on-one attention given to these students allowed for a better learning environment, and these students were able to catch up to other classmates with my help through this program.

Study Skills

I have taught study skills to each of the students I have tutored whether tutoring the student in Biology, math, or English; each of these subjects has a unique way to study. For math, the best way to study is to re-work the problems that the student struggles with. For Biology, making note cards for all the terms is a great way to study. For English and reading, reading more and studying the grammar or composition rules that pose a problem is the best way to study.
