I have spent 10+ years teaching secondary Math courses from Pre-Algebra through AP Calculus at the high school level, teaching in San Antonio [NISD], Dallas ISD and in Santa Cruz Bolivia at an international school in South America. I have taught math for adult learners in the Alamo Community College District. I have also taught C++ and Visual Basic computer languages.
In addition to being a Texas Eduction Agency [TEA] certified Math and Computer Science Teacher, I was a Mathematics Assessment Specialist for Educational Testing Service [ETS] designing standardized Math Exams like the TAKS, the Texas Teacher Certification Exam and parts of the GRE for Graduate School admission. Additionally, I was a Math, Science and Technology liaison between the Dallas ISD and the National Science Foundation [NSF] in Washington, DC and I was a Teacher of Teachers for the Dallas ISD and for the Texas Education Service Center in Region 10 [DFW Area].
In addition to a BS in Math and a MEd from UTSA, I have 15 hours of college undergraduate Physics Courses, 30 hours of graduate course work in Computer Education and Technology. I was accepted to the Harvard Graduate School of Education.I am bilingual in English and Spanish.
I currently work as a Seismic Data Acquisition Geophysicist in the Oil and Gas Industry. Since I spend the majority of my time using my math and science skills in industry, I do not tutor many students nor tutor very often; I extend my help only to those who need help when I am between projects. I am a scientist and a teacher; I obtained a BS in Math and then a teaching certificate, rather than a teacher who happens to teach math.
I help students understand and master the material using traditional methods and applied technology such as the TI84 graphing calculator and/or Excel spreadsheets to teach/learn math and science.
In summary, I am a certified teacher who can also teach the student how the material is used in the real world of science and industry. Because of my ETS test design experience, I can help the student develop test-taking strategies.
My best wishes for your academic success. Jesse is a great tutor. He is very patient and professional. We reviewed binomials, and he answered my questions and helped clarify some problems. He helped me with Excel calculations and showed me how to create a histogram. He works out a good schedule to meet for tutoring and is easy to contact.
After one tutoring session with Mr. H, my college algebra test grade went from a 53 to a 90 on the very next test. Mr. H has the ability to teach, giving a quick overview of the problem, then detailed explanation in an understandable manner. Linear equations and radical exponents was the study. I have had 2 sessions and am awaiting my next test. Thank you Mr. H for saving my GPA.
Jesse immediately got down to the business of tutoring when I arrived and did not waste a minute of my time. He explained each question in detail and showed me both how to work the problem out by hand and also how to use the TI-84 (he is very proficient)to solve the problem. Jesse is very knowledgeable and conducted himself in a professional manner. I look forward to picking his brain some more.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I know the material, I've taught it and designed standardized tests to test the material and when I did not have to adhere rigidly to the district curriculum [summer school], I taught my students how to find solutions using technology.
I use Excel several times daily. I use Excel to display data, to generate charts, graphs and histograms. I know how to use many of the statistical and mathematical formulas/templates included in the Excel software.
I often use Excel to create signs and posters. It has a great art section. I can help you.
I know and understand PreCal, using it in my position as a geophysicist in the Oil and Gas industry. I also know how to teach and explain it I have often integrated technology in teaching PreCal. My student have been well pleased.
