I graduated from Cornell University with a BA in Mathematics and a 3.9 GPA. I also have a law degree from Columbia Law School. I have three years of experience tutoring middle school and high school students in all levels of math, from pre-algebra to calculus. I have been trained in tutoring techniques by my university's math department outreach program and by the college-preparatory program Upward Bound. When I begin to work with a student, he or she is usually struggling with one particular assignment. However, I find that the problem is not limited to the one assignment, but rather began several lessons ago with a misunderstanding of that lesson's concept. My method is to work backwards with the student to find where the original misunderstanding took place. Then from that point, we work forward. For each lesson, I tell the student the concept they must master. Then I provide drill after drill to practice the concept. At the end of those drills I provide the student with several atypical examples which cannot be done by following a pattern, but must instead be solved using a theoretically-driven understanding of the concept. Finally, I ask the student to explain the concept in his or her own words and how it relates to concepts from earlier lessons. This method, I have found provides the student with the most holistic understanding possible and the ability to practically apply such understanding.

Great help to prep for test.

My teenage daughters found her pleasant and helpful. I like that she offered insight into one daughter's self esteem issues as well, which was better received from Andrea than would have been from me. She was prompt with responses and meeting up. She helped explain calculus concepts for test tomorrow they were stuck on. Thank you!

Exceptionally knowledgeable and attentive tutor

Andrea N. explained the material well. My daughter now understands the section of AP Calculus and feels more confident about her homework and next test. I also appreciate Andrea N.'s flexibility in meeting times and location.

Intelligent, Professional, and a Natural Teacher!

Andrea is a highly intelligent, extremely professional tutor who was meant to teach. Her knowledge of the subject is thorough and she is quick on feet to think and adapt. Sessions are correctly paced, challenging yet informative and pragmatic. Tutoring with Andrea doesn’t give you that professor student atmosphere with barriers instead it feels like you’re learning from another student. She is on time, communicative, well prepared and skilled at the online tutor interface. I have had almost a dozen tutors, online and in person, while in college for math, chemistry, French, etc. She is hands down the best, I recommend her all learners especially returning adult students.
