In addition to elementary, I have taught Adult ESL continuing education through Dallas College (formerly Dallas County Community College District). Teaching adults challenged my content expertise and grew me as a teacher. I am currently set to begin my Master of Science in Applied Linguistics with TESOL Emphasis this summer and look forward to teaching English abroad in the not too distant future.
Elementary math is a blast to teach and learn because it is hands-on! Through the use of manipulatives and software, students can explore Math concepts and make connections to their everyday lives. This builds the necessary foundational skills to move up to more complicated, abstract Math concepts.
I love language! To communicate our thoughts and feelings to others, a solid understanding of vocabulary and grammar is required. Parts of speech and verb conjugation are two of my favorites to teach! I am truly a "word-nerd" and am energized by sharing my enthusiasm for grammar.
I am challenged personally with ADD and continue to learn new ways to work with my ADD instead of against it. Several of my own children are challenged by ADHD as are many of my students. I have done extensive research into living successfully with ADD/ADHD and am passionate about helping others who share these challenges.
