With a highly varied background of educational and professional experience, I want to contribute to your success as a student. My love for tutoring began when I worked as an Early Childhood Literacy coach about five years ago. I found that in teaching the fundamentals of reading, I could teach anything. Since this time, I have worked with all levels of students: Early Childhood Education (0-5 yrs); K-12; College; and MBA students attending the top business schools in the country.
I hold a Master of Arts degree from Washington University in St. Louis, and a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of Texas at Dallas. As a business professional and hiring manager, I also have over 20 years of resume and cover letter writing and reviewing. I am extremely patient, honing in on each student’s level and scaffolding instruction until the students can operate in the new subject area independently. This way, my students develop both the expertise and the confidence they need to succeed.
I’m super excited to join Wyzant because of the grand scale of knowledge exchange here. As I freelance as a grant writer, I think this is a great way to plug into the city, too!
I am generally available 4:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Monday – Friday, with flexibility on the weekends and can travel to students (with a $10 surcharge outside of a 10 mile radius of the High Five exchange). My rate is $70 per hour, but I also offer lesson packages. I look forward to hearing from you and helping you achieve success!

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
As a fundraiser, a large portion of my job entails delivering presentations on my respective organizations, their mission and engaging my audiences in such a way that they become life-long supporters of the organization. This can only be done through impeccable storytelling and with well-honed delivery skills. I have been a long-time member of Toastmasters International, beginning in high school when I was a member of my school's Academic Decathlon team, and subsequently as part of the Anheuser-Busch and Big "D" Toastmasters chapters. I enjoy public speaking and know that it is one of the most valuable life skills a person can possess.
I was a member of my high school's speech and debate teams and continued with both subjects in college. I have written several speeches for the executive directors of nonprofit organizations for which I have worked as well as speaking in front of small to large groups of people to convey the importance of charitable causes. Persuasive speech requires an extremely high command of language in that you must convey through words and storytelling messages that can be informative or emotional. Through the benefit of face-to-face communication, body language and physical presence, I am able to deliver convincing oral arguments and address any concerns my audience may have in a well-informed manner.
