Having recently moved to the Dallas area, I have enjoyed getting back into tutoring and getting to know the local curriculum. I notice that many kids here need support mainly in math, Spanish, and Language Arts. With an extensive background as a middle and high school teacher,a credential in biological and physical sciences, and twelve years as a home/hospital teacher, you name it and I can teach it:).
I love not just teaching a subject, but teaching and helping kids. After one session I can usually hone in on where the student is having difficulty, decide where to start and then design the best methods to catch the student up to competency. I love my students and have had the pleasure of working with a wide variety. One young lady who touched my heart was a young mother of 16 who had been in special education for her whole life. I taught her how to read for the first time. A couple of years ago I had a brilliant student who sailed through pre-calculus and so we decided to deviate from the curriculum and teach each other differential equations and integration.
I teach students of all levels and many subject areas. I am also fluent in Spanish, having learned it in high school and college and using it extensively as I lived in Central America and the Caribbean as a relief worker.
I look forward to receiving your inquiries and working with your student. Having recently moved to the Dallas area, I have enjoyed getting back into tutoring and getting to know the local curriculum. I notice that many kids here need support mainly in math, Spanish, and Read more
Lancine has helped my daughter fill in the gaps and understand her Alg 1, as she runs through her CBE course. She is pleasant, easy to speak with and makes the most of the time spent with her. My daughter enjoys her and definitely does not want to give her up.
Ms. Lancine has been helping my son for quite sometime now. We started with just some algebra homework and grasping the materials. Since then we have branched out to help in all subjects and my sons grades are improving. Lancine is very patient and seems to really care for her students. I would absolutely recommend her for all of your child's tutoring needs. I honestly can't say how grateful I am that we found her!!!
I have finally met my match for someone that is patient with teaching me how to sew. Lancine has all the qualifications for a great tutor. I was concerned at first, because I always looked at sewing to be hard, but Lancine gave me the feeling of comfort. Now I am at ease with learning how to sew, and I can finally learn a new skill. Thank You Lancine for being patient with my daughter, my friend and myself. I am looking forward to the next lesson.
Lancine and my daughter met for 2 hours to begin prep review for the SAT. They reviewed math and critical reading. Lancine took the time to get to know my daughter first. She asked specific questions about what she could do to help. She was patient and explained things thoroughly. They worked together well to solve problems. They focused on areas that need improvement, such as vocabulary. Before leaving, we discussed things to study and made plans to meet again. Thanks for your help, Lancine. We look forward to seeing you again.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I taught algebra I and II for twelve years as a Home/Hospital teacher in California and loved every moment of it.
I have been an artist for the last 15 years, teaching various oil painting classes at local churches and community recreation centers to adults only. In order to paint, one has to start with a drawn subject, shaded in appropriate values. Drawing is the beginning and can be the end of a lovely work of art. I always start my students off with imitating a famous works of art. It trains the "eye". Then we can branch off with originals.
I am an accomplished artist and have taught a course that I developed called Oil Painting for Everyone at the Unity Church, the Recreation Center in Roanoke and am now teaching at the YMCA in Flower Mound. My technique includes painting an under painting, which serves as a road map for the over painting, which is applied from the background forward. It makes painting doable for most people and is less intimidating than being given a blank canvas and asked to paint what you see. I am currently teaching through the summer at the YMCA with four children and seven adults in my class.
