I have had a career in astronomy which included Hubble Space Telescope operations, where I became an expert in Excel and SQL, and teaching college-level astronomy and physics. This also involved teaching and using geometry, algebra, trigonometry, and calculus. Recently I have developed considerable skill in chemistry tutoring.
My most effective and enjoyable teaching is one-on-one instruction where I can assess the student's level of understanding of math or science and build from there to develop his or her confidence, grasp of the concepts, and problem-solving abilities.
Please note: The availability hours given are when I MIGHT be available.

We are so grateful to have found Sid! He is patient, thorough and the perfect tutor for my daughter and his approach has proven very effective at getting her to where she needs to be with geometry, algebra II and chemistry! We can't wait to use him for physics, as well.
My son would not have passed Chemistry without Sidney's help. The tutoring that Sidney provided made all the difference in my son's understanding of the subject.
Sidney worked on college chemistry with my son. He is a patient tutor and responds very promptly to inquires by email and always on-time!
Thank you for setting up the tutoring session in such short notice. She feels much more confident about her exam this week.
Mr. P. worked with our son over the summer on SAT math prep. Our son's math score increased significantly! Mr. P. is now, very patiently helping him with whatever physics or calculus questions he may have. Mr. P. is a wonderful tutor!
Highly recommend Mr. P. He is dependable, methodical, and a good teacher. Our son really needed help to get ready for the PSAT. He is patient and very good at showing our son how to work the problems in a systematic manner.
Sidney is a wonderful tutor. We can see progress in our son as he works towards completing this Algebra 2 class. Sidney is patient and kind as well. He explains things at a level that our son can understand and grasp. We enjoy working with him!
I'm a biochemistry major (pre-health) studying at the University of North Texas. As a pre-health student, my grades in all math and science related courses are extremely important in determining my admittance into medical school, Ph.D. programs, master degree in Physician Assistance etc. I’m a slightly older “Non-Traditional” student that decided to go back to school later in life to pursue a career in medicine having almost no background in the sciences. I knew I needed help, so I contacted Sidney. I began weekly 90 minutes sessions with Sidney two years ago and during those two years, he guided me through General Physics with Calculus 1 & 2, as well as Pre-Calculus and Calculus 1. Because of Sidney’s patience, understanding, attention to detail and incredible depth of knowledge, I received A’s in each class as well as in the associated labs. I went from having no prior knowledge of the subject matter mentioned above to consistently setting the curve for tests and receiving the highest grades in the class. It was a lot of hard work but what truly made the difference was the help and encouragement I received from Sidney. I can’t recommend him more, if you need a tutor in math and science, look nowhere else. Thanks again Sid, your support and guidance were invaluable and I will always be grateful for the help you generously provided me.
My son is doing an on-line Algebra 2 course. He is getting through it quite well and quickly with Sidney's help. We are in a time crunch to get it done by May and Sidney has always shot me a text when he has any additional free time. I appreciate his promptness, availability and willingness! Thanks Sidney.
My daughter really enjoyed Sidney's teaching style, and felt very confident after her first lesson. We are looking forward to more lessons in the future.
My son is in AP Algebra 1 and in one hour he understood so much of the semester material that even my husband, a Wharton grad, was impressed. We plan on using Sidney through our son's high school years. The depth of knowledge Sidney has and can actually explain so clearly is amazing. You will not find anyone better on Math, Chem, Physics, or even SAT math prep. If you want your child's knowledge and confidence to soar hire this tutor!
This is an update, May 14,2013. Sidney is such an incredible tutor & that may be because he is a brilliant man. He is able to teach the most difficult subjects and break it down so any student can conquer the subject with an A. The bonus is that the student ends up loving the subject, either AP or regular Chemistry, Physics, Math at any level, SAT prep -- you name it! Sidney is a bargain at any price because the grade or grades, confidence, and love of the knowledge gained is absolutely priceless! If you want the best for your child then you want Sidney. There's no better, period. Respectfully,
Dr. Carol B. PS -- At his hourly rate he is a steal!!!
Sidney is an amazing tutor! He is patient, kind but most of all, he knows Math! He has been such an amazing find for my son! I now have Sidney working with my 7th grade daughter on Algebra 1...her words after her first session, "Mom he is awesome, I learned more in one lesson than I am learning in a week at school". All I can say, is why can't teachers be as good as Sidney? Thank you will never be enough!! We are so lucky to have found him
My son was struggling in pre AP physics because he missed several days due to a school sporting event. Mr. P helped him for his six weeks exam, and my son set the curve not just for his class but all Pre AP physics classes!
Mr. P has been wonderful for my son. He went from barely passing Math last spring to an 88 this year. Recently scored a 95 on a Major Unit test AND has been allowed to move up to the Pre-Ap Math class! Mr.P's wide range of experience with Math and Science means he can also help with Chemistry, now. My older son even comes up with a Calculus question once in a while for him. Mr. P is extremely patient, highly knowledgeable, very dependable and he GETS RESULTS! Thanks!
Sidney is a great tutor. My daughter's grade in Algebra II went from a 70% to an 87%. She understands the concepts and does very well on her tests. Sidney was patient and very thorough. He always arrived on time and stayed until she understood the concepts. I highly recommend him.
Sidney is very knowledgeable and helpful for my daughter in Algebra.
Excellent tutor. My daughter found the tutoring extremely helpful and was able to cover a good deal of work quickly. We definitely recommend Sidney to others.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a certified tutor in all math topics covered by the ASVAB. In my career I have used and taught many mathematical concepts. I have gone to the military's ASVAB web site and have no problems with any of the AFQT subjects tested, including word knowledge and paragraph comprehension. So I will be very happy to assist with your preparation for the exam. As a scientist, I can also help on some of the General Science extra section.
I have used many aspects of chemistry in my career and understand molecular formulae, moles and such. Since 2010 I have successfully tutored many students in general or PAP high school courses. There are some topics in AP courses such as details of bonds and thermo-chemistry for which I do not have adequate knowledge.
For Hubble observation statistics I used various Excel features such as writing cell formulas, generating plots, and doing import from/export to text files. I still use the formula capability often. I do not have practice with pivot tables, but do have good knowledge of general techniques.
