About Gary

Bio

For over 40 years, I have been working in the television and film industry. My jobs have allowed me to travel the world and experience adventures that I never thought possible for a small town Texas boy.

Since I moved to Houston, I have been the Senior Editor for Bill Young Productions and Texas Video and Post. From 2000 - 2005, I was the "Non-linear Editing" Instructor for the Art Institute of Houston.

My life has been busy, but as I slow down, I want to continue to pass on my industry knowledge to the next generation of film makers.

My years of experience working for the National Television networks, on film sets, live and recorded concerts, etc. has provided me with the tools I need to cover all aspects of film and television production.

I have an extremely strong skill set in several Adobe Creative Cloud applications: Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop, Prelude, Media Encoder and to a basic degree, Illustrator.

Video Production, etc is more than just learning software or devices. It is not about knowing WHICH button to push, but WHEN to push those buttons in order to deliver the desired message to the audience.

Communicating Effectively whether it is news, a commercial or a movie is what Video Production is all about. Please contact me to learn more and so we can tailor lessons to meet your goals. Thank you, Gary Foster

In today's world, Digital Images are the building blocks for everything. Websites, animated billboards, streaming video all consists of thousands and thousands of images and Photoshop is the best tool to create and manipulate those images. Since 1994, in my role as the Video Supervisor for Bill Young Productions, I supervised a staff of editors, graphic artists and animators. As the lead it was my responsibility to know our applications expertly so that I could answer any questions that might arise. So I have been a daily user of Photoshop for over 23 years. In addition to my use of Photoshop in my daily video work, I also have a small side business in creating designs for T-Shirts and minted coins.
Film,

Film

After working in local and syndicated television in seven different television markets including Washington DC, Atlanta and Minneapolis, I move to Los Angeles. Part of my time in Los Angeles was spent working on set as dolly grip, assistant director, etc. I spent a great deal of time as a "specialty" camera operator shooting from helicopters and handheld camera on concerts and other events. I rounded out my experiences by editing movie trailers for Touchstone Pictures (Disney) including Dick Tracy and Pretty Woman. My teaching credentials come through hands-on experience. In LA, I instructed some editing courses for Weynand Associates and from 2002 - 2007, I taught NonLinear Editing at the Art Institute of Houston.
Photography,

Photography

My photography knowledge started in 1972 as a photographer for my high school yearbook. In 1974, I began working at my local TV station. Basic Photography is an essential skill set to work in Video Production. I have an thorough knowledge of exposure, composition, depth of field, ISO, etc. Through the years I have been hired to be the photographer for many weddings and events. Recently, I have been photographing local events and festivals for the City of Richmond. My teaching experience includes five years instructing "Non-Linear Editing" at the Art Institute of Houston.
