About Parker

Hello!

As former high school algebra teacher with a Masters in Math Education, that recently graduated from Georgetown Law School - I provide a unique perspective that will likely enable your student to reach their academic goals. And, more importantly, because of my demonstrated ability to successfully engage and empower students of all ages, races, ethnicities, religions, national origins, and sexual orientations - I will help your student develop habits, skills, and confidence requisite for their long-term academic and personal success.

Prior to enrolling in law school, I taught algebra at a public high school in New York City. Each year, I enabled over 80% of my students to pass the required New York State exam, 30% of whom earned the State's "College Recognized" score. In all years prior to my employment, my school's pass rate failed to ever exceed 40% and no more than 1% of students earned the "College Ready" score per year, despite equivalent student populations as those I had the privilege of getting to know.

Throughout my tenure as a teacher, I concurrently pursued and earned a Master of Science in Math Education; graduating from St. John's University Graduate School of Education with a 3.88 GPA.

Other personal, relevant qualifications and experiences include: 1) Bachelors of Arts in Economics, History, and Business Foundations from the University of Texas at Austin; 2) former Big Brother, Big Sister Volunteer; 3) former volunteer at New York City's homeless shelter for LGBT youth; 4) Three years tenure as an assistant coach at Nitro Swim Club, where I engaged over 1,000 swimmers between the ages of six and fourteen; and 5) Two year tenure as the Head Coach for the Westlake Gators Swim Team, where I led over two-hundred swimmers ages four to eighteen.

I would love the opportunity to speak with you in order to learn the particular needs, learning style, and personality of your student with the objective of seeing if I am the correct person to position them for both immediate and long-term academic success. Please do not hesitate to reach out.

Respectfully,

Parker

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

Linear Algebra

For the last two years, I have taught Integrated Algebra in the Bronx. Linear Algebra is covered in full within the Integrated Algebra Curriculum. I possess a Master's of Science in Education with a focus on Math for grades 7 - 12. 80% of my students passed the New York State Algebra Regents Exam, despite less than 15% of the students entering high school at grade level proficiency in math. The highest level of math that I took was Calculus III. In high school, I was the Algebra Student of the Year my freshman year of high school.

Logic

I scored in the 96% percentile on both logic sections of the LSAT and am in my final semester at Georgetown Law.

Political Science

I am currently in my final semester at Georgetown Law. I have worked for the U.S. Senate; U.S. House of Representatives; U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development; Obama for America (2012 Presidential campaign); among others.

As an undergraduate at the University of Texas at Austin, I double majored in Economics and History.
