Texas A&M University (Biology)
My love for learning is what draws me to teaching and tutoring. I am a 32 year old math and science tutor in Richmond, TX. I graduated Magna cum laude from Texas A&M University in 2007 with a bachelors in Biology. From there, I worked as a cancer research technician for a few years in the Houston Medical Center. While doing tutoring on the side in a local high school, I discovered my love for teaching.
I then received my Texas teaching certification in science for grades 8-12. I taught high school chemistry and biology for 4 years, but I have experience tutoring other subjects in math and science. After the birth of my daughter in July, 2013 I decided to stay home from teaching for a while. But, I love teaching too much to stay away from it all together! That's what brings me to Wyzant.
I love one-on-one tutoring and enjoy working with students of all levels. I am patient and have the flexibility to adapt my teaching style to match a student`s needs. I am also confident that I can explain complex math and science problems in a way that is easy to understand.
I look forward to working with you! My love for learning is what draws me to teaching and tutoring. I am a 32 year old math and science tutor in Richmond, TX. With Lauren's help, my wife was able to raise her score's on chemistry exams by 30 points. In addition Lauren was teaching my wife chemistry shortcuts that the professors were not even covering. It was through these shortcuts that my wife was able to succeed on the chemistry exams.
Finally, in addition to chemistry, my wife will be taking physics and Lauren will be able to tutor regarding physics as well.
If it wasn't for Lauren, my wife would not have been able to get her associates degree and she would not be moving on to her bachelors.
We feel very fortunate to have found Lauren! She has been working with my daughter to prepare her for several upcoming college level courses. She explains the information so well and is always very patient making sure my daughter has gained a clear understanding of the concepts they have covered. My daughter always looks forward to her next session with Lauren and feels she is so much more prepared for the classes she had been very apprehensive about. We could not be more pleased with Lauren and highly recommend her! We are already planning to have Lauren work with our other daughter to prepare her for the college entrance exams.
Lauren is very up-to-date on the subject matter and has been quite helpful getting my daughter past a subject she has really been struggling on. We no longer feel like we are drowning.
Having taught the same material as the teacher in a classroom setting, she comes with all kinds of experience in approaching and encouraging the student in Chemistry.
Lauren is also punctual, considerate, and helpful. Would highly recommend for HS Chem.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
