About Kimberly

I am a certified teacher with 10 years of reading, writing, English as a second language, and special education experience. I have taught students in grades 1-9. I have 7 years tutoring grades 1-12, college and graduate level students. I have conducted both group and individual classes designed for teachers preparing for certification.

I have a Master's in Clinical Psychology, teacher certifications in Special Ed., ESL, EC-6. In addition, I have received Neuhaus training which has equipped me with researched based strategies used to support students with spelling difficulties, dyslexia, and other reading differences.

Being highly supportive, encouraging, and passionate are my hallmarks. Without a doubt, I am one who truly believes every student can learn. Sessions with me are highly engaging. Students are guided to discover how they learn best so they can take control of their learning. Your child will enjoy my mulitsensory lessons and learning through story structure while we build on their academic successes.

I offer a no-cost reading assessment and/or consultation during your first session . Progress monitoring will be discussed and documented weekly to provide you with a measure of the effectiveness of my work with your child.

Approved subjects

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.

ADHD

I have 10 years experience providing social skills training to children with ADHD/ADD. I currently teach students with ADHD/ADD who have learning disabilities. I have a Master's in Psychology, and I am a teacher with special education, ESL, early childhood through 6th grade certifications.

Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

I have taught students with Autism. Both my Master's in Psychology and my experience as a teacher certified in special education has equipped me to work with children on the Autism spectrum.

Common Core

I am a certified teacher who understands common core and use Common Core materials to guide instruction.

Dyslexia

I am trained in systematic phonics instruction designed specifically to aid students with dyslexia in mastering sound-symbol relationships. I have facilitated small group instruction of dyslexic students as an interventionist.

Elementary (K-6th)

I am a certified EC-6th grade teacher. I have taught for 10 years.

Handwriting

I have taught handwriting to 1st-5th graders as a certified teacher. I can provide instruction in cursive handwriting as well.

Phonics

I have taught reading for 9 years to 1st-4th graders. I have received specialized training in phonics, while continuing to receive CEUs each year to keep up with the latest research in phonics and phonemic awareness .

Reading

I am a certified teacher of English and Reading. I use research based instructional methods with a mulitsensory approach.

I possess a graduate degree and have both an ESL and Special Education certifications. I currently support students with dyslexia, reading comprehension difficulties , English language learners, and students seeking AP credit. My clients also include gifted students who have a desire to extend and enhance their knowledge and ability to think critically and reflect.

I assess all of my reading students with a Developmental Reading and Spelling assessment in order to establish a benchmark. I also monitor progress with an objective assessment tool this will allow for you to clearly see if your child is benefiting from my interventions. In cases where there is no improvement or improvement is not significant, I modify my intervention methods with data obtained during the course of working with your child.

Social Studies

As a certified teacher, I have taught social studies to grades 1-3, Texas History, American History, and World History.

Special Needs

I am a certified special education teacher with a Master's in Psychology and over 20 years working with children and adults with special needs.

STAAR

I have taught three STAAR (3-5) grades and tutored fourth (6-9) others. I currently teach 4th grade writing, science, and social studies. Within a school setting, I provide STAAR tutorials in reading, math, and writing to 3-5 graders.
