Austin College (Master's)
Texas A&M Commerce aka ETSU (EdD)
I have an EdD from Texas A&M Commerce and a Masters from Austin College. It was my desire to teach school as a very young age, and I have enjoyed every year of assisting students achieve success and excellent scores on End-of-Course tests in U.S. History, the College Board AP tests for World, U.S., and European History, and improve their school tests, essays, and exams. I have over 25 years of teaching experience and it includes many different venues - from small country schools to a highly academically-competitive urban high school. Although I originally began as an English teacher, the past 20 years have been spent focused on all three AP History subjects. What occupation could be more fun than telling true stories and letting students explore how and why those things happened? And what could be more important than discovering why the world became what it is today and how it got there? I find it just fascinating! I have over 10 years of experience teaching all levels of English, from 7th grade up through Senior English, although not at the Advanced Placement level.
I am well trained by the College Board in all three History fields, although my specialty is AP World History. I have been a College Board Table Leader for the AP World History essay exam for over seven years and a Reader for eight years prior to being promoted to the Table Leader position. Although I am not a Reader for either AP U.S. History or AP European History, my students have achieved excellent scores on those two exams as over the past ten years as well.
I am usually available for tutoring Monday through Thursday from your after-school hours till 8:00 p.m., later if by special appointment. Saturdays and Sundays, I am available from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Please contact me for more details! I have an EdD from Texas A&M Commerce and a Masters from Austin College. Andie is an extremely qualified AT Euro history teacher. She goes out of her way to get the task done. My son already improved after a single session and scored a 90 on his DBQ. She is a seasoned AP history teacher and is very familiar with the new AP format. I recommend her highly.
In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
I am a veteran history teacher of over 20 years.
Although I have credentials in both History and English, History has become my true love.
I have taught World History, US History, and European History.
I am a qualified Advanced Placement Teacher for the College Board in World History, US History, and European History.
I have a 100% pass rate on the Texas "EOC" (End of Course Exam) given to all high school students. To earn a high school diploma in the State of Texas, a passing score on the EOC is required.
I have taught all levels of literature, grammar, and writing with over 5 years of experience.
I have strong grammatical and writing skills.
I have experience in US History, World History, European History as well as Geography.
My experience includes the Advanced Placement Level as well as regular-level classes.
My students score well above the national average for all AP History exams and the Texas End of Course Exam in US History.
I have taught AP European History at least 10 times over my 20-year experience of history teaching. Only 4 of those students failed to achieve an acceptable score on the College Board exam. Because I also teach AP World History and AP US History, I am able to give students a more complete understanding of historical events & concepts because I am familiar with the historical context surrounding significant events & concepts.
All three AP History courses have been redesigned in the last 3 years, and I have been retrained on all 3 in order to make sure my students are current as to the requirements set up by the College Board.
I've taught AP World History since it was introduced 16 years ago. My student passing rate on the AP exam is well over the national average, over 78-80%. One year, all my students except one passed the exam. I've also taught AP European History for about 10 years, and only 3 of those students did not score a 3 or above. Both courses have been redesigned, and I was retrained on both this past summer.
I have earned a B.A. degree from Austin College in English as well as a M.A. degree in Education from the same institution (located in Sherman, Texas). I have taught all levels and all aspects of English, including writing and research at all levels of junior high (middle school) and high school. I have also worked as a paralegal/legal assistant for various down-town law firms, which also sharpened my writing and organizational skills.
