I have taught school for 41 years with degrees in elementary and special education. My master's was in the areas of reading, and special education. I also have certifications in ESL, education diagnostician, reading recovery with advanced hours in dyslexia teaching.
Since I just retired during the summer of 2015, I really miss teaching students. I love to touch students' lives by encouraging them to reach for the stars. My belief is that all children can learn, and it is my duty to help them reach their goals.
My belief is that reading and writing go together. It is impossible to separate the two. Although one may work on reading, students need to be able to combine this with writing.
My 41 years experience as a dyslexia and classroom teacher has contributed to my success. Although I am older than most tutors, I always keep up with the current teaching strategies. I am an avid reader and hope to instill this in my students.
My reading recovery certification, advanced dyslexia training and my experiences with learning differences has helped me be a teacher for students who really need to accelerate in reading and phonics.

In most cases, tutors gain approval in a subject by passing a proficiency exam. For some subject areas, like music and art, tutors submit written requests to demonstrate their proficiency to potential students. If a tutor is interested but not yet approved in a subject, the subject will appear in non-bold font. Tutors need to be approved in a subject prior to beginning lessons.
